Cartoon King "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" was Cartoon Network's first fully-original animated TV show. It premiered in 1994 and ended in 2004. It was basically the launchpad for Cartoon Network's adult-oriented, late-night programming block "Adult Swim", which gave it the nick-name of "The Father of Adult Swim". It was also the first animated talk show, and pretty much the only one.The host of the show was the 1960s Hanna-Barbera action cartoon hero, Space Ghost, who is now self-absorbed and stupid. His arch-nemesis Zorak is the band leader, and he's still as evil as ever. And another villain from the '60s show, Moltar, is the director.Space Ghost interviewed actual celebrities. Including: Bobcat Goldthwait, Conan O'Brien, Fran Drecsher, Weird Al Yankovic, Mark Hammil, Jack Black, Matt Groening, Mike Judge, The Ramones, Hulk Hogan, Jim Carrey, Slash, Willie Nelson, Adam West, Emiril Lagasse, Carrot Top, Tyra Banks, Ben Stiller, and William Shatner among many others."Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" spawned many spin-offs. Which include "Cartoon Planet"; "The Brak Show"; "Aqua Teen Hunger Force"; and "Harvey Birdman, Attourney-at-Law". This show was very important to the history of Adult Swim."Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" was just a hilarious show. Surreal humor at it's funniest, and I loved the idea of giving a '60s Hanna-Barbera character a talk show. One of the best shows in Cartoon Network and Williams Street history. The characters were all hilarious, the voice acting was great, as I just said I loved the concept of the show, the limited animation actually made it even funnier, and the odd, surreal sense of humor was just great.Rating: 9/10 "Excellent"
bob the moo Once upon a time Space Ghost was a superhero but when he got into his 40's things didn't come as easily and retirement beckoned. Wishing to stay in the public eye, Space Ghost started his own talk show, broadcasting from deep space. With his former nemesis Zorak as co-presenter and super villain Moltar as director, Space Ghost interviews celebrities in the studio and via video link to earth. Of course, his is not the tightest show doing the rounds but at least it is rarely dull.adult swim used to be an occasional pleasure for me because the only times I would get to dip into it would be during trips to the US (and I rarely could stay up that late so it was literally a case of dipping into it). Recently though it has arrived in the UK thanks to Bravo and I have had more of an opportunity to watch. In some ways this is good because I have discovered how brilliant ATHF is but the downside is that the shows that worked as a novelty value were suddenly exposed as not being quite as good as my very occasional dip suggested they were. Space Ghost was one of these casualties as it becomes evident quickly that the show doesn't vary a huge amount. This doesn't necessarily mean it will be a problem but in the case of Space Ghost it seemed to stutter along rather than flow, with too many pauses without laughs and too little action. The show does have a certain charm to it but I found it to be too lacking in ideas to really make me watch it consistently. The guests should be the thing that makes the show different episode to episode and provide the energy but mostly they seem separated from the animated characters and rarely do they fit in. It is a shame because I do like the weird style this has in the same way as I like it in Harvey Birdman; the difference is that Birdman (itself not perfect) has a flow, an energy and enough going on to be more than just a novelty, with Space Ghost I'm sorry to say I do not think that is the case.Different then and occasionally imaginative and funny but overall Space Ghost is a bit too aimless and ambling to really make me want to do more than just occasionally dip into it for the novelty value.
chthon2 My god, the people who thought up this show are geniuses. Put an outdated cartoon character on his own talk show with his old rivals, lower all their IQ levels by 20 points, and have pop icons be bombarded by pointless questions. This is probably the best talk show I have ever seen, which is funny consideing the host isn't even real.I think it's good that this show never reached a wider audience, either. That makes it kind of special. Just a little something for those of us who stay up all night watching TV.
PowerBub If you haven't seen Space Ghost: C2C yet, or for that matter any of the "Adult Swim" lineup on Cartoon Network (Sunday night 10pm-1am eastern time), you don't know what you're missing. The shows are more or less all intertwined with the same bunch of writers/actors, and all have the same themed humor: flat-out weird. The topics and dialogue are always completely random, which is what makes it so damn funny. The thing about Space Ghost is he has actual people talking to him and aren't really sure how to react to the random ramblings of Space Ghost and his crew - Zorak, the evil giant mantis band leader, and Moltar, the less-evil lavaman director (half the time they just ignore the guests). If you've seen some of the more recent episodes, you notice that plot is even less of a factor in the writing of this show than when it originally started. With guests from Willie Nelson to Al Roker to Timothy Leary to a cow, this show has it all.
