celina-r-greene SPOILER: To any lgbt people or allies wanting watch this...don't. It's disgusting and cheap. You get lured in only to find out that obviously because the killer is transgender and has been rejected by some guys that she wants to go on a crazed killing spree. good times. It's an old school plot twist. SURPRISE! IT'S THE GAYS!
NicolaiLevin I hate French thrillers: They overdo the settings (think of the ridiculous mountain university campus in the Crimson Rivers), they overdo personal drama and problems of their protagonists (only beaten by the Swedish in this area) and they are just not gripping. Not this one. I didn't want to but had to watch the 6 episodes in two nights. Yes, there are flaws to the details of the plot (like the über-clever way Jeanne escapes and the mobile phone tracking) and I think they overdid the last episode.Yet La Mante follows a clever overall idea; the cinematography is ok; I liked the acting; the pace is good, the story sticks to its main road, there are no overly obvious red herrings, there is just the right number of main characters. No funny sidekicks or romantic subplots - it all adds up very nicely. When I think of it, I found it remarkable how believable and natural the stark emotional conflict between serial-murder-mum and cop-son was outlined and played. It was fun to watch. I felt entertained and thrilled, and I am not angry with the writers for fooling with me or insulting my intelligence. There are not many French crime stories which can claim that.
stanleychch Subtitles can often put people off but keep watching and reading as you do not miss a thing when reading every word. This series was very good and captivated me.
cloviskemmerich It's a must-see show. The levels of tension just increase from the beginnin till the end.
