Fields201 When I was little, my sister turned to MTV and an episode of Ren and Stimpy was on. It was the Space Madness episode where Ren and Stimpy are in space and Ren goes crazy. I remember my sister and I laughing when Stimpy was tapping the table and Ren starts to go off. From there, I was hooked on the show. The first season is the best. With episodes like In The Army, Powdered Toastman, or my favorite Visit to Anthony's. The animation is absolutely hilarious, and the shows are very well written. Just recently I got my filming buddies interested in the commentary which is actually a fun listen. After the first season and the firing of John K, the show started to go down in quality. There are some funny episodes, even in the later seasons (Maid Moron and Haggis McHaggis episodes) but then the show starts to make no sense. The last season was really weird, and it was like they did drugs before making an episode. What's even more insulting is that the DVDs cut a lot of scenes out of some episodes. I'm not sure if this is to save space, or if they are censoring it, but I like my DVDs uncut, thank you very much!Ren and Stimpy are still classics, in my opinion. I still proudly own the DVDS, and I have gone back and watched them. I think they are even funnier when you are an adult.
Felix Saenz In light of the John K situation, I won't judge the show based on him or his incidents. Anyway, what can I say? Ren and Stimpy is a fun and creepy cartoon to watch. While it may not be for everyone, the whole show seem to follow the path that some future cartoons had done - grossout genre, and now there's a dozen storyboard driven cartoons as well. On its merit, the show's animation is one of the best aspects. It's so smooth that it managed to stay fluid throughout most of it run. Props mainly go to Carbunkle Cartoons and Rough Draft Studios for their work. Writing wise, during the first 3 seasons, it's nearly hit. Not too many lame moments and there's only a few misses. Afterwards, it still hits but there's moments that made you shake your head. As for characters, Ren is definitely my favorite character and I can relate to him at times. He's just constantly funny with his outbursts and stuff. Stimpy is a fun character as well and still had his moments, but he doesn't beat Ren. There's other good background characters but we don't see them that much. I like that the BGM basically uses Associated Production Music which is also best known for being used in SpongeBob. I loved both opening and ending themes as well. Voice acting is full of energy. I enjoyed both voices for Ren. Billy West does a fine job as Stimpy. So does the guest stars/recurring cast. Aside from the occasional duds, it's still an enjoyable show. If you don't easily get grossed out like I do, this show is for you. And yes, I still recommend the Games Animation era. Definitely one of the most influenced cartoons ever. Unfortunately, those inspired cartoons doesn't hold a candle to this as they're more gross. This is gross out humor done right.
Dawalk-1 As one of the trio of the original Nicktoon shows, when I was little/younger, I used to be crazy about this show back in the day. But now I'm not into it so much anymore, not as much as I used to be, so in recent years I consider it somewhat of a guilty pleasure. I agree with the reviewer who mentioned this isn't the greatest cartoon ever. Looking back on it, it amazes me just how I was able to get through the gross-out humor in this (especially the Onward and Upward episode, which is, by far, the grossest episode ever made, original series or Adult Party Cartoon version and I'm not in any rush to see that one again anytime soon) and I can see that as the perfect reason as to why not everybody may have been into this. The gross out humor that is so commonly seen in several, certain cartoons since and nowadays may have started with this as has often been mentioned, but I think the real genesis of that brand of humor goes back even further, beginning with the Garbage Pail Kids trading card game, T.V. cartoon series, and live-action movie, all of which predate this series by a few years. I haven't seen many repulsive cartoons and I don't really care to do so, this and I think Aaahh!! Real Monsters were enough for me (maybe even more than enough at that). I didn't know it or may not have realized it at the time, but I now know Ren and Stimpy changed the cartoon industry, for better or worse, depending on your view on it, with some, certain shows imitating it, etc. Years ago, growing up, this would've been one of my favorite or top programs, but not anymore. There are more flaws with it than not. I concur that this, as well as many of its imitators, like Cow and Chicken, are overrated. I'm not quite sure what I ever saw in it in the first place, other than getting kicks out of seeing Ren having his maniacal fits. That's one of the recurring themes here: Poking fun at mental illness and I thought that was a highlight. If anyone who hasn't seen this were interested in checking this out, then I'd say just stick with the first two seasons, those may frequently be considered when the show was at its best, with the first season episode, Stimpy's Invention, among the best. For that reason, this is why I'm giving this show half the limit of stars that can be given. If it weren't for that, I may have rated this lower. I still somewhat have an attachment to this show for that reason, probably alone. Since checking out and catching up on some other cartoons I missed, I'm much more into those now and less into this. Several episodes contain gross-out/sick humor, so if none of y'all reading this is a fan of that, then I'd advise to avoid this show. Other than those explanations, this is just too much for me, for the most part, now.
Jonathan Tomajko OH JOY!! Ren & Stimpy is indeed one of the greatest cartoons ever in the world. The show's humor was definitely the best, and the content of the episodes are classic. From selling rubber nipples to the great outdoors, "The Ren & Stimpy Show" is without a doubt one of the best cartoons to grace my TV set. If you have never seen this show make sure you do! For whenever you watch this show you will know this show is a true classic. Just watching the beginning theme song you know you are in for a show with goofy and somewhat gross humor that never wears out. I could watch an episode 10 times and still laugh at it because it's humor is timeless. You will not know true American Animation until you watch "The Ren & Stimpy Show".It deserves a 20 out of 10 but for now I'll give it a 10 out of 10
