EP1 Custer's Last Stand Feb 27, 2007

This episode sheds new light upon the anathemised General Custer, questioning the standard view of him as an incompetent and vainglorious idiot and presenting him as an intelligent and ruthless man, whose last battle could easily have been a victory if things had gone as he'd planned.

EP2 Billy the Kid Mar 06, 2007

Billy the kid, the most notorious figure of the wild west, is on trial again... this time the world's three leading experts, re-examining old evidence and pondering letters from Billy the Kid that have never been seen before, try to determine just how guilty he was, and whether the then governor of New Mexico, Lew Wallace, really had promised Billy a pardon, and if so, why? Was Billy the Kid the psychopathic killer history says he is or was he completely different from the legend that has built up around him?

EP3 The Gunfight at the OK Corral Mar 13, 2007

The gun fight at the okay corral is, perhaps, the most famous shootout in history. In thirty seconds a new image in legend was born - the legend of the Righteous Lawman. But what was Wyatt Earp truly like? After the gunfight at the OK Corral Earp was not seen as a hero. He was charged with murder and put on trial for his life. Was he a 'Righteous Lawman' fighting for justice and equality, or was he just a ruthless enforcer, hardly bett...

hasnoform ...subjects of this documentary-drama was the fact that its main focus was whether or not Billy the Kid should be given a posthumous pardon as (if the researchers have dome their work correctly) it seems he wasn't all as bad as he was made out to be in history. Very well-researched and fairly good acting. Shot in southern Spain due to the similarity of that landscape with the badlands of the USA. Colin Stinton was particularly good in his role. The lead actor was certainly somewhat more handsome than the real Billy the Kid. One of a series of several about the Wild West, the Custer episode (though I haven't seen it) was meant to be very good also.
georgia-burns I would love to see this series and look forward to it being available in the US. I have seen the stills from several websites and I saw Toby mention his enjoyment at playing Custer on a BBC interview. He said he thought it would be the closest he would get to being in a Western. I also read he had a rather skittish horse that needed a bit of sedation to do its part properly. Meanwhile, I cannot imagine why there is no photograph of the gorgeous Toby Stephens on this site. He has so many wonderful photos online to choose from. In fact, I would have a hard time choosing if I were your webmaster. I hope you will correct this oversight immediately. If you haven't seen him in Jane Eyre, you have missed one of the sexiest performances on film, ever!
