alison_young-21400 I was on a long flight, and was planning to check out a single episode before going to sleep.. I didn't think I'd like the show based on the ads I'd seen, but turns out I couldn't stop watching. I ended up seeing seven episodes, laughing out loud, waking up the people next to me. Great show! Very funny, compelling characters, love the writing. I'm baffled by the bad reviews here.. were they watching the same show?! Of course the characters/situations are exaggerated - it's a comedy.
keeleefrost Just when you are ready to dislike a character, boom, they show their vulnerability and you are hooked. This show makes it okay to not be a "perfect" mom or parent for that matter without making it into a soap opera. I want to meet all of the characters and have them come hang out!
A Wu As a working mom, I really wanted to love this show. I watched 5 episodes and really gave it a shot. The writing is not funny, the plot is overly exaggerated and I cannot relate to any of the characters. I'm flabbergasted why it's been renewed for a second season and disappointed in CBCs choice - and really annoyed it's just because it's tied to the reitman family. This one is a big miss for me.
jrschriver A good comedy will make you laugh, a great comedy will also challenge you to think about the world differently. This show tries to do the latter, without first nailing down the former. It almost seems like someone at the CBC had a laundry list of issues they thought should be addressed on TV, and decided the best way to do that would be awkwardly stuffing them into a comedy. Now, being a parent, there are moments in the show that deeply resonate, and there are some genuinely entertaining moments as well - so there is certainly potential here - but there are also a lot of dropped jokes and lazy writing that just weigh the show down, so by the time the credits role I am often left confused and frustrated. I think this is an important show trying to do important things and with some time, effort and thought can be made into a genuinely good comedy. If Workin' Moms was airing on a private network, I fear it would not make it past season one. However, since it is on the CBC it can get the time and grace it needs to properly develop.
