Chrysanthepop Given the cast of actors like Jason Lee, Selma Blair and Julia Stiles, I had expected this to be a better rom-com than the usual sugar-coated trash that Hollywood churns out every year. Granted that Stiles has done her fair share of that kind of garbage but at least Lee and Blair have been more selective in their choices. However, 'A Guy Thing' is a big disappointment. Yes, there are a few funny sequences but the story and characterization is very messed up. As the tagline says, boy meets girl, falls in love and then boy meets girl's cousin, falls for her and oh, in the meantime, boy's brother has apparently always been in love with girl and girl loves him too, at least on a subconscious level. Sound familiar? Well why shouldn't it? 'A Guy Thing' relies on the tried and tested formula, a formula that, in my opinion has always failed. So what if boy met girl's cousin after marriage or what if boy meets another cousin and falls for her? Well, whatever. On the plus side, I liked that it doesn't overly focus on the locations (as most romcoms feel the need to highlight New York City). The performances are decent. Selma Blair looks stunning. That's all.
schofy The tale of your average joe having to endure the worst week of his life leading up to his wedding. Sleeping with someone on his stag do, Crabs, Cousins, Moonlighting cooks using dope as a spice, A stalker jealous cop, a brother who fancies the bride to be...Jason lee is superb as he crashes from one disaster to the next. I really enjoyed this movie and I might add as much as some IMDb have slagged off Sophia Myles I thought she was quite good. The complete opposite to the girl jason lee's character is going to marry might be one of those I know whats coming movies but it does enough with the humour and events to differ from the others enough. After a pants day at work with a curry and a bottle of wine it was bang on :)
Amy Adler Paul (Jason Lee) is an underachiever who just happens to be engaged to a type-A princess named Karen (Selma Blair). She chooses his clothes and his daily schedule. At his bachelor party, Paul gets a little too drunk and somehow ends up taking a pretty dancer named Becky (Julia Stiles) back to his digs. "Nothing happened", as they say, but the duo do wake up in the same bed. Suddenly Karen telephones. She's on her way to Paul's apartment. Understandably, Paul hustles Becky out of the place, although her underpants are left behind. But, there is even more fun ahead. At a family dinner at Karen's parents' home, Paul runs smack into Becky again, learning that she is Karen's cousin. Talk about some explaining to do! But, instead, Paul chooses to feign a stomach problem and hides out in the bathroom. Will Karen ever find out that Becky spent the night at Paul's place? And, what will be the consequences? I'm sorry for critics who pan movies like this. They should definitely lighten up, for this film is fresh and fun. Of course, it doesn't hurt matters that Lee is a consummate funny man, Stiles is a charming beauty or that Blair is a natural as a pretty but anal fiancée. The rest of the cast, including James Brolin and Julie Haggerty, is also quite nice. The look of the film is wonderful, as are the costumes and California settings. Best of all, the script is imaginative and inspired, creating big laughs for the audience. In short, if you want to tickle the proverbial funnybones, get this movie tonight. It may not be Academy Award material but it is absolutely guaranteed to turn a bad day into a darn good one.
Aaron Martinez This was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen… I don't really know why… Just your run-of-the-mill stories about guy who is about to get married, and starts to fancy someone else instead. Story has been told a thousand times. Nothing new or innovative about it at all.I don't really know what was wrong with this film. Most of the time when these kinds of actors/actresses get together to make a film that have already been made a million times before, it's really entertaining. There are usually little clever thing in them that aren't really in any other. For some reason, this one just doesn't hold your attention. You can pick out some funny parts, or clever ideas in it, but for some reason they're just not funny, nor clever in any way… I wish I new how to explain it, but I don't… Just don't waste your time on this one
