ComedyFan2010 This is an 80's TV adaptation of both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. A story symbolizing the growing up of Alice. I didn't watch this movie as a kid, so I don't have any fond memories. I just watched it as an adult because the cast made me curious (or should I say curiouser and curiouser?) And the cast is definitely impressive. I was especially excited to see Ringo Star as the Mock Turtle. The acting isn't exceptional, but I would think that this is because of the fact that it is a children's movie and they tend to exaggerate acting in those. Natalie Gregory wasn't bad as Alice. For a child performer not very annoying.Special effects are not the best, and in many cases pretty laughable, but one shouldn't forget that it is a TV movie that came out in 1985. Other than that, the decoration is very beautiful and it is all very colourful. It feels a bit too long. Too many songs, sometimes it feels like it drags on and there isn't enough action happening. I feel that great book could have been adapted to be more exciting. All in all it isn't a bad movie. I believe a child would like it even more than I did, and the good part is that as an adult one can enjoy watching it withe them, at least for the first time.
Honor Heymann I really don't know where to begin, but this movie has seriously changed my life. When I was little and we were traveling around the world and we went to France, we went into this little bookstore and they had a big door and a really small door for children, and I was pretending to be Alice when she was stuck in that room. My parents and sister laughed at me because my imagination was basically based on Alice in Wonderland. It's always been my favorite movie and I can't stop watching it. It is truly amazing, and I'd LOVE to get the DVD. I only have the VHS and it is really really poor quality and I would love if a soundtrack came out. I'm in love with every single song and if any of you hear of a soundtrack or have the songs, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Every scene has my attention and I can't imagine how my life would be if I never saw it. This is absolutely fantastic. :]
renkiohen Its been beautiful to hear what seems to be the theme of my generation's experience with this film: "My mom/dad/grandma/grandpa taped this film when i was little/unborn and it glued me to the TV for all three hours of it." This was exactly how I experienced it and I feel nothing but gratitude to my parents for taping it and thus giving me the opportunity to watch it again and again and again...even though it TERRIFIED me! Somehow that didn't stop me from indulging in repeat viewings (my parents say I watched it incessantly). Of course, as I got older, I stopped watching it. But just recently I was shocked to find it in my hands as a DVD (my girlfriend heard me speak fondly of it and got it for me as an early x-mas present). Since then I've found myself wrapped in a myriad of awe, nostalgia, and even tears as childhood loves and fears have come flooding back to me because of this film. It's a riveting and beautiful story for children, but for adults who really listen its a treasure chest of wisdom. Buy this film for your kids and for yourself. It's enriched my life as both a child and an adult.
nmbrelloch I love this movie!!! I can remember watching it over and over and over again when I was little. My aunt taped it for me when it was on TV in 1985. If you can believe it, I still have the tape! I could hardly believe it when I saw it on DVD. I watched it again and still loved it. All the songs are still with me. It just proves that it is a timeless story and a very cute movie. I hope that one day my children will enjoy this same movie. It is full of all sorts of famous people and the costumes are wonderful. Keep in mind that this came out in the 80's. If you like "The Never Ending Story" 1984 or "Labyrinth"1986, you should give it a try. It is the closest to the book that I have seen. I also like that it has two parts just like the book. I hated the Disney version and thought this was far better. The little girl was the best Alice I have seen yet.
