syfyhallmarkfan I am not sure why I watched this movie to the bitter end. The budget here could not have been lower. The costumes looked rather sad, as well as many of the sets. C. Thomas Howell has worked in a lot of these Syfy films, and he never disappoints. Within 30 minutes, Howell goes from super-jerk to psychopath, which I enjoyed. It doesn't waste my time on figuring out his character development. The Martians looked a lot like Earth guys who work out at a gym all day. Luckily there was breathable air in the pyramid, too! And how convenient that everyone (the multinational crew and the aliens) speaks English! The plot was full of holes, and if I can spot them while intentionally trying to relax my brain by watching a cheesy movie, then that is disappointing. A poor Stargate.
dan-christman What an absolutely horrible, misguided movie. Clearly, the writer was trying to take pieces of Mission to Mars, and Stargate, and trying to throw something together to pay the rent. The story is lame, the acting is non existent. Why does C Thomas Howell continue to do this kind of garbage. He may not be 'A List', but he is better than this nonsense. There are a couple of passable 'not so special' effects, but that's about it.I for one would be thrilled to see SciFi go back to airing old "B" flicks from the 50's, and maybe some more MST3K
Rabh17 I mean, this one is Bad. The kind of Bad that belongs in a Film-making Textbook-- under Example # 3aAT the same time, It's a Bad that can be watched if only so you can tear it apart. You'll be uttering phrases such as:Oh Please! You've got to be kidding! RIP OFF!!! Huh. .Right! Die Already!. . .make up more of your own.I won't even BOTHER with Spoilers, because they actually are WORKING with a "Plot". It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense, and it's AWFULLY complex and involved with Preistesses, secretive world governments, Greedy Corporations, warriors, ancient Technology neo-buddhist monks with white eyes, and the old warrior from Stargate, no less!. . .but IT IS A PLOT! That's Star # 1The Ancient Martian Sets and props are actually pretty thorough-- even if they don't make sense either-- but anyways, they did make very good use of what was probably a miserly FX budget. That's Star # 2The Black Character didn't Die in the first ten minutes saving another crewmember. That one's close to my heart. They broke a Sci-Fi Film-making Tradition! That's Star # 3They didn't step out onto the Martian Surface with only Respirators. That's Star # 4 for minimal scientific realism. And all female characters wear dark, tight and utterly utilitarian wife-beater style marine undershirts. As a Guy, I give them a Star # 5 for accurately targeting their audience. And on a Script level, the Final Star # 6 for NOT hearing that tired Line: "We have been watching you for over a 1000 years". (What can I say-- that line always ticked me off in Sci-Fi)Yet all the same-- Watchable, with derision a la Mystery Science Theatre. This Movie IS a Candidate for that venerated venue!Oh. . .and your girlfriend can yap all the way thru this trainwreck without any diminution in collateral enjoyment. 'Cause you can rest assured that the Girlfriend will NOT be paying any attention to what's on the screen. And this is one time that even as a Guy, I cannot naysay her.Gosh-- I hope those actors got PAID?!?!?
chris-bruins00 I've watched every episode of every Star Trek and Stargate series so I found Crimson Force entertaining. They were definitely trying for the same feeling as those shows. There was a mystery, some action, costumes, sets made of rocks like on Star Trek. The Captain was a nasty version of Kirk. The hero was more like Riker. The women were powerful and were good to look at.The movie is far from perfect. The plot was good and very sci-fi but you need to pay attention to get it all, like in Star Trek. The low-budget aspect was apparent especially in the action parts. Some of the acting needed help. The effects were both good and bad-not as good as Trek but what do you expect for a low budget movie.Worth renting if you like this type of thing.
