bowmanblue Looking at the internet, you'd think that 'Critters 2' was some sort of travesty which totally took away any cheesy merit that the original had. Not so. It's actually pretty good. If you like eighties cheesy horror. And I do.I've only just watched it since the early nineties and I'm amazed at how much I remember. I'm sure I didn't spend my entire childhood watching Critters 2, but I seem to recall some of it word for word. If you haven't seen the first instalment then don't worry. This one hardly requires much prior knowledge of the franchise to understand. A couple of years ago, some nasty little aliens landed on Earth, terrorised a farm and were ultimately despatched by the alien bounty hunters helping the local townsfolk. That's actually also the plot to the sequel. Only this time it's bigger and better. There are more Critters. The Critters are generally nastier, while blatantly being funnier at the same time. Critters 2 bounces between horror and comedy, whereas the first film was more horror with the occasional dose of humour. In many ways, Critters 2 is to Critters, what Gremlins 2 was to Gremlins – bigger, louder, funnier, but ultimately not as well received.Critters 2 is hardly horror. Sure, there are a few gross moments and the Critters themselves are beautifully ugly. But it's one of those films that you have to know what you're getting before you sit down. It's popcorn fun to the max. Any alien who can turn into a Playboy centrefold and then remove the staple he's inadvertently copied hardly sets out to take itself seriously. The film is never that serious, so you shouldn't try to take it so.If you like nasty little eighties puppet-monsters and daftness to the max, you'll like this. Put your brain on hold and don't over-think anything (otherwise you might start to question why a space ship, i.e. a ship that flies in the vastness of space, comes equipped with an Earth-made parachute. Think about it).
piratecannon You didn't really think the Crites had been wiped off the face of the Earth, did you? Heck no. They've actually been hard at work propagating their species. In fact, a nest of their colorful eggs are discovered on the abandoned farm property featured in the first film. These are sold to a local hustler by a punk who's out to score beer and pornographic reading material. Said hustler then sells the eggs to the local church so they can be used in the town-wide Easter Egg Hunt.Yeah. You can see where this is going.Believe it or not, Critters 2 is much more well done than its predecessor. It's cheesier, filled with schlocky gore, and actually realizes that it's not going to ever be truly scary. Because of this, it ultimately feels like Gremlins 2: you know, the one where all of the little monsters reeked havoc on a Manhattan skyscraper. The rip-off effect isn't quite as poignant as I had originally feared, though. Things quickly escalate from ridiculous to ludicrous, and it seems as if screenwriter David Twohy and Mick Garris realized that this sequel should be as absurd as possible. This time around the people of Grover's Bend are goofier than ever, and the Crites reveal they're ability to morph into one gigantic "critter ball" that carves a path of destruction throughout the community. The hilarity is also taken up a notch by the decision of one alien bounty hunter to undergo an incredibly fake/incredibly awkward transformation so as to represent a Playboy playmate. Watching a super model state gruffly, "Kill Crites," is a lot funnier than it probably sounds. There's innuendo worked into the equation in the form of extending intergalactic shotguns, and this manages to elicit its fair share of hardy-har-hars.Is Critters 2 worth watching? It depends. If you like idiotic creature features that know how to successfully self-parody themselves, then "sure," by all means, give it a shot. Just don't be surprised if you find yourself rolling your eyes just as often as the Crites roll down the dusty streets of Grover's Bend.
Critters1986 Now today I'm just going to talk about how good or bad this movie is. Im not going to review it because everyone dosn't wont 44 people telling what this movie is about. So lets get into it straight away. Now I k Bnow everyones being saying this but Critters 2 is not as good as the first and that is a fact. And instead of the Critters being serious in the first one they be silly in this movie and continue it in 3 and 4. But that dosn't mean its bad in fact this movie is awesome and I like it! In this movie it stars some of the main characters from the first one like Charlie played by Don Opper, Ug played by Terrence Mann, Brad played by Scott Grimes, Sally played by Lin Shaye and they do have Harv in this movie but played by a different actor Barry Corbin. They have some new characters in this movie like Megan played by Liane Curtis, Mr. Morgan played by Sam Anderson, Wesley played by Tom Hodges and Quigly played by Douglas Rowe. So thank you for reading my review and I will review Critters and 3 and 4.
Jan Strydom The Crites are back and this time they're hungrier and meaner, although CRITTERS 2 is a good sequel its not really as good as the first one but its not bad at all, its also very fun to watch and very entertaining but it lacks a little something that could've made it as good as the first one, the problem is I don't know what but if you watch the two films back to back you'll understand what I'm saying. The acting is very good however but I didn't really recognize many of the cast with the exception of a few familiar faces from the first film and of course a certain playboy playmate who is seen in one of the film's funny moments.Overall, its a good sequel even though its not as good as the first one I'll recommend it about as much as I would the first one.
