thomasjay-52277 Made on a shoestring budget in a small British town this release is truly amazing given the context of what it had to work with. Granted there's no Oscar worthy performances and it's arguably a little on the 'mindless' side of films there's fantastically tense moments and a fairly interesting story, recommend a watch
asjdfaoisjio Dead Man's shoes is nothing short of remarkable. It stands with Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur and his new film, Journeyman, as one of the best British films of all time and as one of my personal favorite films ever. The performances are stunning, Paddy Considine is terrifying, and the direction is perfect, as is the script. 10 out of 10.
shawbags On paper I can see the argument that there is little morally redemptive quality to a film like Dead Man's Shoes, no diamond polished by the end credits to reward an audience going through the trauma. But to actually sit through the film, and most importantly, to be subjected to another of Paddy Consadines' electric performances, is an extra-ordinarily vital, if viceral experience. In 'A Room for Romeo Brass' Considines character shifted from comical to threatening in a truly unsettling way, although in the end his promise 'to go dark on you' is easily thwarted by the decisive action and confidence of a father-figure. In this film, again, there is some uncertainty on the audience's part as to how far the character will go, as until the end, we are uncertain of exactly what he is revenging.Rest-assured, Considine delivers an absolutely convincing depiction of a man struggling to balance his desire for revenge and redemption, he invokes sympathy and fear from the audience in a performance to rival DeNiro in 'Taxi Driver'.I judge a film on the value of the experience it gives you, and 'Dead Man's Shoes is more than worthy of your time.
adrian_rawling To use the word masterpiece would be an understatement. This film will stay with you for the rest of your life. Paddy Considine gives one of the greatest acting performances of all time. No word of a lie - he is phenomenal. The screenplay is as close to perfection as you'll find. The characters seem very familiar - the kind of people you will have come across at one time or another, especially if you grew up in Northern England. My only disappointment is that Richard doesn't make the scumbags suffer even more for their depraved actions, but his redemption still satisfies as the heinous past events gradually unfold to build a fitting climax. "God will forgive them. He will forgive them and allow them into Heaven...I can't live with that." So quotable. So realistic. So powerful. A must watch.
