ctomvelu1 When you see The Asylum label attached to a video, and before the credits roll, you are subjected to closeup shots of various college-age morons screaming and bleeding from the head and mouth, you know you are in for trouble. DMW reminds me of videos I used to rent from a Blockbuster that was next to a public housing project. Most of these so-called horror titles were amateur flicks shot on a shoestring budget and given the most lurid covers imaginable. Hell, the covers probably cost more than the flicks themselves. I learned my lesson after renting several such videos, the absolute worst being the infamous "Ax 'Em." I caught DMW on Chiller, which should be embarrassed to have ever shown it. Plot: A man who has killed four zombies and been infected in the process is sent to a maximum security prison, where he infects other prisoners and guards. The prison is locked down, and the rest of the story involves a handful of folks who have not been infected trying to find a way out. The movie, such as it is, is just plain awful. The zombie effects are ludicrous, and there isn't one real actor in the bunch. It also was blocked and shot by someone who has no idea how to stage a scene. Where I come from, we call this a fanboy film. Made by fanboys for fanboys. So all you fanboys out there, enjoy. Everyone else, please steer clear.
slayrrr666 "Dead Men Walking" is a pretty normal entry in the zombie genre.**SPOILERS**After being caught trying to wipe out a zombie invasion, a new prisoner is transferred to Harwood Maximum Security Prison, and the strange cause of his arrest prompts Samantha Beckett, (Bay Bruner) to look into him. The staff soon become concerned that he's vomiting blood on the inmates, and Samantha eventually reveals that he was infected with a strange virus that turns the infected into a bloodthirsty zombie. As it spreads through the prison, infecting more inmates and staff members, they are forced to defend themselves from the blood-thirsty zombies that have taken over the prison. The Good News: This one actually turned out to be a pretty decent zombie film. The most impressive thing in the movie is the huge amount of blood on display. The gore sequences were pretty outstanding and there was tons of blood flying everywhere, some really chunky bites, blood splatter all over the prison walls, guts are yanked from afar, necks gashed wide open, and a whole slew of abdominal eviscerations that were of great quality and very impressive. The gore flowed pretty steadily throughout the film and was a very gory delight. The setting is a nice, new one for zombie films, and actually gets some mileage out of the fact that it's an enclosed surrounding with no way to get out. It's a great touch that helps out tremendously. Once the film gets going, it's pretty much non-stop, making for some great action scenes towards the end, and the last half-hour in particular is just full-throttle action. The opening also helps in the action factor, starting it off on the right notion. It wasn't all that bad.The Bad News: There is a couple complaints for the film. The biggest problem is the gunfire. I know this is a low budget film, but please put a flash on the gun when it fires. It was slightly ridiculous to see guards hold their guns at the zombies, with gunfire sounds in the scene, but with nothing coming out of the gun. Even the fact that they never even sound as loud as a real gun should be in the situation is a distraction. There's no loud booming sound, rather a weak-sounding cap that really gives the fake guns away. The zombie attack scenes are also staged much too chaotically and edited with such quick jump cuts and blurring effects that it feels more like a low-budget video game. It's very hyper stylized and serves as a distraction rather than a help. And as a personal gripe, fast-running zombies will never be scary. The Final Verdict: It's decent enough in it's own way, but the few gripes against it will never be enough to offset what gory highlights can be gathered. If you're a zombie fan or love this type of film, give it a go. Otherwise, exercise extreme cation.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Brief Nudity and children in danger
paul_hooker In the first two minutes we get four zombies dispatched via shotgun including one great headshot. The sole survivor is charged with the four murders and is sent to a maximum security prison where the infection spreads throughout the prison population. Sounds like all the ingredients for an all out zombie slaughterfest...right? Sadly, this movie loses all its momentum just as the opening credits stop rolling.Once we get to the prison the action is bogged down with an inane storyline and a poorly executed attempt at character development. As the infection spreads, we get shots of guards shooting, interspersed with shots of zombie advancement, interspersed with shots of guards shooting, interspersed with shots of zombie advancement...and so it goes until the end of the movie. Are the guards even hitting anything??? The final shot is the only other worthwhile scene in this movie. I won't say what happens, but once you've wasted an hour and a half of your life to get here, it seems like a pretty poor trade. The opening sequence proves that these people had the ability to create decent special effects on a B-movie budget. However, it is also painfully obvious that this budget ran out too early in production to create a satisfying end product. There are several necessary scenes missing entirely, leaving only black screen to let the viewer know that something should be there but isn't.This isn't the worst zombie movie out there (see Zombie Night), but it is also quite far from good. If the producers had wasted less effort and money on the plot and characters (that never really work anyway), then they might have succeeded in the action which is what most people are watching this for in the first place.
matches81 I admit I have a weakness for zombie films, but this one is just boring. Though the premise sounds like fun and the gore isn't that bad overall and the movie starts promising fun, most dialogs are just plain stupid even for a B movie: A character that is supposed to have done research in biological warfare or something similar and suggests treating a virus with antibiotics isn't even funny anymore. The scene where the priest gets infected is just ridiculously stupid (the only scene where I actually had something to laugh about) with characters (and not just one) doing a complete turnaround in their opinions from one sentence to another. Sadly the film lacks any kind of originality except for the prison setting and except for some extremely stupid dialogs there is no humor to be found. Overall a boring, stupid movie not worth watching.
