TonyMontana96 After the pleasantly surprising first picture, I expected an even better second outing, but what I got was a film too stupid for its own good, with annoying side character's and outlandish, very silly moments that make the first picture seem like a documentary. Aside from one neat, well-choreographed battle sequence and a good central performance from the returning Vegar Hoel (Martin), the film is a mess. This time the jokes are way off, I didn't laugh and found some of the violence reprehensible and pointless, for example there's one scene where The Nazi loses his arm, Martin's car goes off the road and he wakes up in a hospital, with his arm reattached only it's not his, and during an escape from the hospital he kills a young child by accident and tries to see if he's breathing, gut's spray the screen and you see the child motionless and ripped open, I'm guessing this was an attempt at humour, but it was distasteful and unfunny. They try to include a more advanced story this time, using a plot device that shows the Zombie's main objective and what they really wanted, which was not the gold, but it's tacked on and forced and really pointless. Whenever a horror or comedy film works really well, there's usually a sequel, one that never feels anything but disappointing, and here we are, but somehow this one is awful. The new character's, Monica, Daniel and Blake are nerds with irritating personalities, one of them continuously references Star Wars and at one point says "May the force be with you", now is this meant to be a badass zombie picture or a nerd's round up point, the screenwriters seem to be mistaken as there's nothing cool about this gory nerd-fest. There's plenty of unnecessary carnage too where the zombies storm into a peaceful town and butcher families who were merely living in the wrong town at the wrong time, now the film think's this is entertaining but It's actually repulsive because it's not necessarily a fight, but a massacre that never needed to happen.Other problems include terrible dialogue, predictable, lame clichés and a lot of dreadful camera-work from Tommy Wirkola who at times makes the violence look incoherent. The thing that really sealed the nail in the coffin was the ending though; which has Martin digging up his dead girlfriend, so he can resurrect her, and have sex with her in the back of a car whilst Bonnie Tyler's Total eclipse of the heart play's in the background, over the top and disgusting even for a zombie picture, and it was not funny, it was cringeworthily bad and summed up the film as a whole, stupid, pointless and a massive, dreary disappointment. Dead Snow 2 is so awful, it has put me off ever seeing the third one, when it eventually comes out, and I can tell, they will make up another ridiculous story to keep this franchise running.
Matt Kracht The plot: Nazi zombies return to carry out their 70-year old orders -- to destroy a Norwegian town. However, Martin, the hero of the prior film, also returns to protect it.There are some pretty funny scenes in this film. If you have a sick enough sense of humor, you'll probably laugh when these Nazi zombies blow up babies. But there are also a whole lot of scenes that just don't work. I don't know whose idea it was to include a bunch of Americans in the sequel, but it was a bad, bad idea. They're painfully unfunny. There's also a gay character who's more stereotypical than funny. In fact, when Hoel (Martin) or Gamst (Col. Herzog) weren't on the screen, I was a bit bored. But their scenes were great. The humor is pretty dark, and the gore is omnipresent. If you're not into that sort of thing, then you should avoid this film. On the other hand, if you like Evil Dead homages, then you'll probably enjoy this. There's a character who loses his arm, but instead of attaching a chainsaw, he has a zombie arm unwillingly grafted on. I've seen a lot of zombie films, but I've never seen that before. Too bad that there are so many unfunny characters mixed in.
shuddhadev OK let me start by saying that this movie is 100 mins of pure non sense and has no relevance to anything. But having said that this movie has its own charm and is a definite watch for all Z movie addicts. If your expecting a pure WWZ apocalypse, then this one does complete justice to the title, since eventually an all out war breaks off between the NAZI zombies and the SOVIET zombies and there is chaos in a comical way haha. Even in the middle of all the brutality , there is a sense of comedy which will surely make the viewers burst out into unstoppable laughter.Coming back to the gore element...this is a pure slasher with limbs and heads flying off everywhere, intestines being devoured by the undead and faces being chewed off like chewing gum. There is a good amount of nostalgia as well associated in this movie (you will understand if your a WWII movie fan) , as it redirects to the horror of the Nazis during the WWII in a very comical way...(and I mean really comical). Imagine a German tank, together with hordes of blood thirsty zombies brutally slaughtering and crushing all the women and children and the police or the army does not care at all.The setting is beautiful as the movie has been filmed in Norway, and it does good amount of justice to the movie as a whole. The cast does a good job, even though it doesn't consist of much familiar faces, but the ZOMBIE SQUAD totally rules!!! Hence I would conclude by saying..that if your looking for a well sought out Z flick, then look no further, DEAD SNOW 2 is what definitely you should be watching. As for me, this movie totally sorted out my weekend.
Hellmant 'DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS. DEAD': Four and a Half Stars (Out of Five) Sequel to the 2009 Norwegian zombie horror-comedy flick; about a group of students attacked by Nazi zombies, in the Norwegian mountains. The sole survivor, of that film, is now trying to defend a Norwegian town; from annihilation, by the Nazi zombies. It was once again directed by Tommy Wirkola and written by Wirkola, Stig Frode Henriksen and Vegar Hoel. Hoel and Henriksen also once again star in the movie and this time they're joined by Martin Starr, Ingrid Haas, Jocelyn DeBoer, Hallvard Holmen, Kristoffer Joner, Amrita Acharia, Derek Mears and Orjan Garnst (reprising his role as Colonel Herzog). I loved the movie; it's so much fun! Picking up right where the first film left off; Martin (Hoel) is still on the run from the Nazi zombies, and he crashes his car in the mountains. He ends up in a hospital where a doctor replaces his amputated arm, that he sawed off in the first film (to stop a zombie infection), with the undead arm of Colonel Herzog (Garnst). He can't control the arm, at first, and it murders several people. He later learns that he has special zombie powers, thanks to his new zombie arm. He also learns that Herzog, and his army of undead Nazis, plan on destroying a town; as part of a 70-year-old assignment, given to them by Hitler. Martin finds help from a WWII museum employee, named Glenn (Henriksen), and three American siblings; calling themselves the 'Zombie Squad'. They're lead by a nerd named Daniel (Starr). The movie is full of excessive and extremely grotesque zombie violence; it's definitely not a film for everyone, but it's also full of really funny light-hearted humor. The action scenes are so much fun and the characters are all likable and mostly relatable (in an exaggerated way). The additions of Star and Holmen, to the cast, are brilliant and there's a classic zombie sidekick character (Joner) as well. Hoel is also, once again, outstanding in the lead and Wirkola's directing is perfect. It's sure to become a cult classic, like the original, and its also highly reminiscent of 'EVIL DEAD II'; which is a good thing (in my opinion).
