JoeB131 When I saw Billy Drago's name in the credits, I was like, "We're doomed". But this was actually not a bad little film. it had some snappy dialog, the plot moved along at a good pace, and it had kind of a neat twist ending. So the Catholic Church (Seriously, again the Catholics? Why doesn't Satan ever mess with the other religions?) employs a half-demon hybrid to hunt down demons and people possessed by them. Meanwhile the lust Demon, Asmodeus, is impregnating prostitutes and trophy wives in order to create his children on Earth. There's is also a really silly looking succubus. Again, everything about this movie screams "Cheese", but it's a higher quality cheese than you normally expect. You know, the kind you'd actually serve with a fine wine.
GL84 After getting involved in a missing person case, a half-man, half-angel finds that a demonic overlord is planning to launch an attack on humanity with humans as vessels to transport the demons into the world and tries to stop the plan from being engaged. This here is a below-average film overall. One of the few entertaining ideas is that there's some interesting changes around the possession angle, as rather than getting a traditional version where one is possessed throughout the film only to get it exorcised at the end, this one decides instead to give several demonic figures that are actively possessing several individuals throughout the film, and that gives it a little extra that might be otherwise ignored as in excluding the tired exorcism scene. The beginning is the only one to feature that, and it's an abbreviated one that doesn't even finish which is quite nice since those scenes are really played out and don't really offer anything new. This here also has some pretty good action scenes in its' two really big martial arts fight scenes, which are both above-average for the style. The main one against the henchmen and their boss is the big scene, which is long and really drawn-out which makes for an exciting scene as well. Some of the gore scenes aren't that bad, and the continuous sleaze is provided rather nicely along the way here but otherwise, this one had a few nagging problems. One of the main ones is that there's not a whole lot of action going on, with a middle segment largely devoted to its investigation. The investigation is boring, with the film having absolutely nothing interesting going on since it consists of little more than bringing up wild theories only to be immediately shot down and is soon steered towards talking about him. This is done for everything in that segment, and doesn't do much to keep it interesting. The fact that this one is so short time-wise is another dragging mark against the film, since there's a continuous need to press forward with continuous scenes that produce nothing but boredom due to the predicable and really dull investigation segment. This one really could've used more time not only in keeping the running time for this one stretched out with a few more fight scenes in here while also giving it a more frantic and exciting plot line by refreshing many of the motives rationales for everyone involved as the shortened time rushes through all of these for the most part. These here are the film's flaws that keep it down.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Full Nudity.
lastliberal There is nothing new here. Demon Hunter is a goofy, low-budget flick that wouldn't look out-of-place as a "movie of the week" on the Sci-Fi Channel. hey! It is on this Friday. Unfortunately, it would have to be cut to just an hour after the sex scenes are removed - and that's with commercials! Sean Patrick Flanery (Into the Fire, Kiss the Bride, Simply Irresistible) does a credible job as the demon hunter in a kind of Blade/Constantine remake. He the church's Michael Clayton, who comes in to fix messes when exorcisms go wrong. He is helped by Colleen Porch (All In, Transformers, I Know Who Killed Me), a nun (who kinda looks like Angelina Jolie) who is definitely not cut out for this work.He is fighting one of the evilest looking characters in the movies, Billy Drago (The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Mysterious Skin, The Untouchables), who is trying to create some evil spawn. He is assisted by a knockout, Tania Deighton (Something's Gotta Give), who needs to be in a lot more movies.Lots of skin and some good fighting, but no FX. You've seen it all before.
Woodyanders Rough'n'tumble half-breed holy a**kicker demon hunter Jake Greyman (a superbly rugged portrayal by Sean Patrick Flanery of "The Boondock Saints") fights various forms of evil for the Catholic Church. He's assigned by Cardinal White (nicely played by William Bassett) to stop nefarious lustful hell spawn Asmodeus (a marvelously creepy and reptilian Billy Drago) and his loyal servant Succubus (gorgeous brunette knockout Tania Deighton, who sports cute little horns) from procreating with fallen Los Angeles prostitutes. Compassionate unorthodox nun Sarah Ryan (a likable performance by striking hottie Colleen Porch) helps Jake out on his desperate mission. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance. Director Scott Ziehl, working from a blithely schlocky script by Mitch Gould, loads this enjoyably silly supernatural claptrap with several rousing bash 'em up fight scenes, a decent smattering of gratuitous nudity, a dab of grisly gore, and even a smidgen of steamy soft-core sex. Moreover, Ziehl keeps the pace rattling along at a satisfying steady clip throughout this movie's short'n'sweet 78 minute running time. Flanery's scruffy, apathetic and cynical character makes for an engagingly hard-around-the-edges anti-hero. Robert C. New's slick, agile cinematography, the wailin', head-bangin' rock soundtrack, Jon Lee's roaring score, and some laughably lousy CGI effects further add to the overall entertainingly trashy fun.
