Python Hyena Extreme Ops (2002): Dir: Christian Duguay / Cast: Rufus Sewell, Bridgette Wilson, Devon Sawa, Rupert Graves, Heino Ferch: Had Britney Spears directed this film, it might have been called Extreme Oops...I Did It Again. All jokes aside the film is a complete snowstorm disaster that should be buried underneath an avalanche. Preposterous plot has a group of misfits shooting a commercial in the snowy mountains but terrorists wreck their plans. Remainder of film consists of them doing massive stunts on skies and snowboards to outwit the enemy. Results are predictable, dull and pathetic with stunts duplicating for plot. It is about as much fun as having a bowel movement in my pants. Christian Duguay previously made another stupid action film called The Art of War. He can handle action but the screenplay needs much to be desired. It consists of a bunch of airheads whom we do not care about who nearly meet death due too stupidity. Among the actors with the misfortune of appearing in this sh*t storm are Bridgette Wilson who had won a gold mettle and got rewarded with a script this idiotic. Others include Rufus Sewell, Devon Sawa and Rupert Graves, and this is likely not going to earn any bragging rights by any of them. Film exists for its action but for extra entertainment why not bury it in the deep cold Atlantic in hopes that it isn't discovered. Score: 2 / 10
bob the moo An extreme sports advertising firm travels to snowy Eastern Europe to shoot an advert featuring snow-boarding in the middle of an avalanche. Despite the danger, all the thrill-seekers see it as a bit of fun but, when they accidentally get film of a "dead" war criminal very much alive, they find themselves in very real danger.Perhaps unfortunately also known as The Extremists, this film is an European attempt to do what xXx did in regards making an action film out of extreme sports. Now, to many viewers this may feel like a particularly bad overall aim but bear in mind that, instead of American muscle-man Vin Diesel, we've got Rufus Sewell in the lead – "oh sh1111111t boy....it's on now kid, we bringing the C-WELL" etc. You get my point – from the start you cannot shake the feeling that this is a product made without a lot of money sloshing around. With that in mind I did expect it to be awful and it was a weirdly nice surprise to find that it is only "not that good". The plot about terrorists in a remote location is not reached for two-thirds and up till then we just have lots of noisy "extreme sports" action. This snow-boarding stuff is all very well but, without any plotting or characters to speak of, you'd be better off just watching it on one of those channel 4 sports programmes instead. In the final thirty minutes we suddenly have an action movie as one would expect but this is too quick and lacking in tension or the sort of internal realism required to engage the viewer. It pootles along OK I suppose but it never shakes the feeling of being basic mainly because Duguay can't inject action and thrills into it, he does his best but the material is the root of the problem and the film never did anything for me other than distract. The cast don't help the feeling of this being done on the cheap but the bigger problem is that nobody really has a lot of presence or charisma. The only exception to this is Pallaske, who is cute and energetic enough to stick in the mind. Otherwise though we are left with Sewell being too bland for this film, Graves doing a "comedy" character, Wilson being blonde and tall, Sawa (better known as Eminem's Stan) doing not that much and then lots of Eastern European boiler-plates.Extreme Ops offers a mix of so-so extreme sports action, so-so narrative, so-so performances and so-so action. It is no surprise then that the overall film at its best is "so-so" and other than a very lazy Friday night watching cable, I don't think many viewers will find that this meets their needs. "Here we go again" is the final line of the film – extremely unlikely I'd say.
therealxoxo I thought that Extreme Ops was one of the best action movies I have ever seen. It is also very suspenseful. Most of the actors and actresses in the movie did their own stunts, which is incredible. The action and stunts in this movie are amazing. People on snowboards and skis outrunning an avalanche. Priceless. And then there is the involvement with the terrorists out of nowhere. That is pretty cool. I think Extreme Ops has a good them to it. But I recommend seeing this movie if you're an action movie fan. I won't give away too much information. Just watch it. You'll love it! Even if some people said the movie sucked, I highly disagree. Just don't listen to them until you see it, and judge it for yourself. Enjoy!
cobitt This movie was so ridiculous I couldn't help from laughing hysterically, even if the director was going for serious anxiety. Let me lay down the final action scene in the movie because it's so hilariously bad.Spoiler*** The bad guy shoots a girl out of her snowboard binding from about 150 yards away (possible?). Another snowboarder puts her on his board and they continue down the mountain (possible?). They stop just in time from flying over a cliff, and the other teammates give them ropes as the cliff crumbles away beneath them (lucky). They're all hanging from ropes for a few minutes until one guy cuts himself loose and parachutes away (Why is he worried about falling and why don't they all parachute away?). Two skiers create a diversion while a third jumps over top of the terrorist helicopter, throws a rope in its propeller and blows it up. This creates an avalanche that the two diversion skiers now ski in front of while posing for the hand-held camera that they toss back and forth to each other.***End of Spoiler The fraction of a plot that existed made no sense. Why would people risk their lives like this for a freaking commercial? Couldn't they just use CGI to show a skier in front of an avalanche like they obviously did in this movie???! People who would like this movie would have to know nothing about snow, snow-sports, mountain climbing, and the laws of physics. So for all those retarded skateboarders with a 7th grade education, This movie is Xtreeme to the Max!!
