ma-cortes The film concerns an ex-con named Taylor (Christian Slater) , after being released from jail but again he's going on bad deals . He has a daughter , a beautiful little girl , and a gorgeous girlfriend (Sara Downing). He hooks up with a group of delinquents (Daryl Hanna , Balthazar Getty , Booken Woodbine , Verne Troyer , among others) who swindle a mobster (William Forsythe) and scheming a spectacular as brilliant robbing but then become embroiled into unfortunate events . As they discover the cash is fake and it is marked. Later on , Taylor becomes involved a corrupt FBI agent (Val Kilmer) who kidnaps his daughter . After happening a series of plot twists until an explosive final .This thrilling movie is a tough , terrific adventure in grand larceny , containing run-of-the mill action , violence , car pursuits and numerous killings . This routine story about a drifter again enticed into crime is skillfully constructed , economically produced and competently acted , but displays some ridiculous and embarrassing moments here and there with ups and downs scenes . It's combined of matchless suspense , minimum characterization and thrill-load movie . Christian Slater is good , Val Kilmer as ambitious agent is cool although appears top-billing , he has limited screen time . Special mention to Verne Troyer in a sympathetic role . It's realized in low-budget , thus the car scenes are made in transparency and being produced by Millennium Films (Avi and Danny Lerner , Trevor Short , Boaz Davison) usual of short budget movies . The motion picture was professionally directed by Servian director Peter Antonijevic who previously made the more thoughtful and brooding ¨Savior¨ . Rating : Average but passable .
sarastro7 The majority of user comments on this movie, Hard Cash, claim that this is the Worst Movie Ever, and loads of people have rated it a "1". I swear I have no idea what the hell everybody seems to have against this perfectly good movie. They must have expected something completely different, which I frankly don't see how is possible. The DVD sleeve is pretty up front about everything. This is not some big-budget Hollywood action movie, and, for cripes sake, it isn't meant to be! It's a low-key drama with interesting characters, situations and humor. And good actors. And yeah, it's straight to video, or reminiscent of a TV movie. So what? It's possible to do good stories in that format (and on that budget), too. From the moment I started watching Hard Cash, I had fun. Not for a single moment anywhere in the movie did I stop being absolutely engaged in the story. I liked the characters and the dialog and the action. I had nothing against the car and boat chases; for a small budget I thought it all looked pretty damn good. The characters were well fleshed out, the story flowed smoothly, with every detail being important. Lots of fun. This is a movie I'd normally rate a 7 or a 7.5 out of 10, but just because everybody hates it I'll raise that to an 8.God, it burns my ass when people just crap all over a totally decent, entertaining, well-written movie with good characters and performances all-round. Why, I oughtta...!!!
mxracer157 first off, the sound track on this movie was horrible. the writing was also horrible. to get two great actors such as Slater and Kilmer together and to let the writing kill the film is horrible. the good thing about this movie was the supporting cast. these young stars have all shown skill in other movies, and do a decent job in this. as usual, Hannah is the blond bombshell that gets men to do whatever she wants. It would be nice to see her actually act sometime. Slater pulls the job off in portraying a father that does what he can to take care of his family. The script though was just so unreasonable. Because of the interaction between the supporting cast, and between father and daughter, this movie is OK, it is a 5 out of 10. But as always, the writers should have worked harder. Only nice touch about it was that there were no fancy cars owned by the thieves except for the gangsters. Kilmer does a good job as a crooked cop, I could feel that in him. Decent movie if you want a little bit of action, a little bit of suspense and a lot of horrible writing!
2cents I recently saw this dvd in a bargain bin for £4 and out of curiosity bought it. I have been a fan of Christian Slaters movies for some time and it was so sad to see a brilliant actor reduced by such god awful directing.Hard Cash is a good movie screaming to get out of a s***e one, scenes involving Kilmer and Slater are actually pretty good, they bounce of each other well and Val Kilmer does camp, pompous villain far better than he does batman !!!. Verne Troyer has a great character who should have been used more (However 'Attila' is not funny, clever or ironic as his character name) and the actual idea of the film isn't that bad.The problem is the editing/directing. Predrag whatzizface turns this movie into a joke, over use of the dodgy car chase scenes and the constant flicking to irrelevant shots just annoy the viewer.I didn't hate this movie, but I just feel that a monkey could have edited it better!! With the cast available and the technology these days I cant believe how visually poor this film is.Pull it back, give all the film to a proper director and let him go to work. There is a watchable and enjoyable movie hidden in this mess. Maybe they should have spent a little more 'hard cash' on the crew!!I can only imagine what was left on the cutting room floor.Thats my 2 cents
