Stephen Abell After watching the dreadful Hellraiser - Inferno I was hoping this would be better... after all, it does have the return of Kirsty Cotton... but it's not.Trevor Gooden (Winters) wakes up in a hospital after a car accident in which his wife Kirsty (Laurence) drowns. Suffering headaches and realistic nightmares he also begins to notice that his life is a little less ordinary than it should be. Some things in his life have changed... and they keep changing on a daily basis... things are wrong... something is out there... something is getting closer...This, like Inferno, had possibilities, however, due to the direction of the story and the film we get another Thriller with Cenobites. Note I didn't say starring. Once again the Cenobites take a back seat to the thriller. There are two positives this film has over Inferno. One is that the story is less jarring and slightly better constructed... slightly... But it still has the same effect of harming the film and the performances the actors and actresses give. The second is that the director, Bota, instils a trickle of unease throughout the movie. It's just a shame that it doesn't quite make it to fear. The two major flaws that irked me the most were both to do with Kirsty. I just cannot imagine that she'd marry anybody like Trevor, not when you consider her past... and considering her past would she, once again, open the box and treat the Cenobites so antagonistically(?) This just isn't in her character... but hey, when should a story be shaped by a character, especially when a twist and reveal depends on it(?)Again, this film could have been better had more attention been paid to the characters and structure and with a few more Cenobites added into the mix.To be honest, this isn't as bad as Inferno, in fact, it's worth a watch. However, it's not a Hellraiser film and because of that, I would recommend you watch the original movies. They are so much better than this... in every Hellraising way.
BA_Harrison Hellraiser: Hellseeker sees the welcome return of the very lovely Ashley Laurence as Kirsty, but unfortunately she's not really in it for very long, quickly disappearing into the murky depths after her husband Trevor (Dean Winters) crashes their car in a river. The remainder of the film centres around Trevor as he struggles to remember the events leading up to the accident, tries to convince the police that he didn't kill his wife on purpose, suffers from a series of terrifying episodes that make it hard for him (and us) to tell what is real and what is imagined, and occasionally bumps into old Pinhead (Doug Bradley). One of the most predictable and overused twists in horror is the 'they were dead the whole time' revelation as seen in films like Carnival of Souls, Jacob's Ladder, Reeker, The Sixth Sense, Dead End, and The Others. Hellraiser: Hellseeker also goes with this trite revelation, despite the previous chapter in the franchise, Hellraiser: Inferno, utilising a similar plot device (slightly adapted so that the main character was revealed to be forever trapped in his own personal hell). If you've already seen Inferno, you'll get a strange sense of deja vu with Hellseeker. While it's not a completely unwatchable movie, it does prove a rather disappointing one simply because it offers virtually nothing new to fans of the series.
KineticSeoul I really don't understand why some critics are claiming this is one of the better sequels in this franchise. This is the most boring and least interesting entry in my opinion. With every sequel it seems to go away from being a actual "Hellraiser" movie. The constant hallucinations is overdone and the unfaithful husband deal was already done in the 5th installment. I just couldn't really comprehend the direction of this movie and not in a good way either. It basically seemed like a horror tale from "Tales from the Crypt" or one of those "8 Films to Die For". Sure, the movie is about facing your demons and such, but it has been done before and better in the previous installments. This movie just didn't have much going on, so it just has bunch of hallucinations thrown in it with Pinhead basically just showing up at the very end mostly. If certain "Hellraiser" elements weren't in this movie, this movie by itself would be crap. I personally think it's because I saw the other "Hellraiser" movies that I am being lenient with this one. Because by itself, this movie is just garbage. I thought this would be a decent installment since Ashley Laurence is making a return in this as Kirsty Cotton Gooden who was in the first 2 "Hellraiser" movies. I don't know why she even bothered to be in this one besides for the paycheck. She is almost non-existent in this flick and I thought it would be Kirsty facing her demons one more time. The focus is far away from Pinhead and the cenobites as a matter of fact, it just seems like they are just something just tagged onto this flick. At least the 5th installment had psychedelic visuals. This movie sucks and it sucks even more that Kirsty is wasted in this. I give this a 2.3, because the ending is cool I guess.2.3/10
atinder ...about this sequel not as good as the one before, I thought it was better then the fourth movie in the series for so far.The most of the movie. I was really confused, as the movie kept on going, I just kept on getting more and more confused..I did not understand what the hell was going for most of the movie, I just found the whole movie to be very bizarre.I did not find that boring, there were some dull parts that drag on bit but that really, found this sequel well worth watching.I Clad that Kirsty returned in this movie to have a connections to the early movies in the seriesI really liked the the ending, it really took me by surprised as did not seeing coming at all,Over I thought it was very decent sequel but it did not have many bloody moment in this at all, i thought it even less gory then one before, which had very little gory in it.I give this 5 out of 10
