Sean T Man, I don't know why Kanye put up money for this trash. I wish I could get a refund of my Google Play rental fee for real! Dame Dash attempted to write, direct, star-in and narrate this so called gangster flick that was even worse than State Property 2. I get that his ego may be outta control, but let those with talent do what they do best. Bad script equals bad movie and the script was bad to begin with. There were old dudes playing young dudes and big homies younger than little homies? I was confused, but not just by the fact that so called kingpens were chillin' on a car parked on the street and doing the work of foot soldiers, which made no sense either, but what was with all the slow motion, opera music filled shoot-em-up scenes? And there were way to many of them!!! I guess the movie got green lit, because Dame paid for it all by himself, along with a few rich homies. A man who has made millions in the rap game and produced several other urban crime flicks should be over the same old same dope dealing movie, but what Dame Dash's fascination with the drug game is at 50 year old is beyond me. There are so many other black experiences to be told besides the overdone, ghetto ass drug dealing genre. I'd expect black excellence outta a guy of Dame caliber, but somehow he's still fascinated w/ pushing rocks on the block in Harlem. SMH!
mariokimbrough First off, I admire Dame Dash. His honesty is a breath of fresh air. He has the mind of a genius. This film had the potential to be a classic. The only reason I'm doing a review...I would hope Dame will see this and apply it to future films. first, the movie should have cast younger actors. Men in their late 40's were not "right" for their roles. Maybe later in the film, using older characters would have been more convincing. Second, the commentary throughout the entire movie was overbearing to say the least. A well written script would not have required play by play commentary throughout the entire film. I felt like I was watching a pro football game,,,the commentator (dame) was explaining every scene. A more detailed script would have reduced commentary significantly. Thirdly, Waaaaaay too many shoot'em up scenes. Shooting scenes seemed like space fillers to make up for a lack of content. Film quality was good...Film quality carried the characteristics of a bigger budget film. In closing, the film had the potential to be a 7, possibly a "hood classic". But it missed the mark. Good luck on the next one Dame, I watch all your videos and consider all the advice you offer. You spread the knowledge and the love. Much respect!
C This movie is extremely boring. Watched it once fell asleep midway through watched it again and it was a boring story line, acting was sub par. Dame dash constantly tries to recreate his 2 years of selling drugs and he's 50. Take yourself and your hussling buddies out of the movie and get younger people to play the roles it makes it more realistic people with grey mustaches and beards talking about selling crack.,Take yourself more out of the movie. Paid in full was great because you didn't narrate it and it wasn't your story nor did you play any major role in the movie your life story of 2 years of selling drugs is boring and this depicts it. This movie was pure trash.
kingtambo I don't know where to begin. This film seems like the creator Damon Dash just wants to make a movie because he can. This film is filled with narration from Mr. Dash explaining things in the film instead of showing anything. Constant slow motion gun fights with music/opera playing. The story just shows generic themes and Mr. Dash's narration paints it however he intends without actually showing you anything. He obviously just put in friends/family/associates as cast just to keep it mostly in house. There are a couple real actors but mostly just people with no acting training that are just associates of Mr Dash. The movie is probably 60 percent slow motion gun fights and 30 percent narration with maybe 10 percent of actual story. With the exception of paid in full which Mr Dash did not direct or write, any movie Dame Dash is involved with is film school amateur class at best. I cannot recommend this movie to anyone, not even super fans of the genre. Its that bad.
