Horst in Translation ([email protected]) In 2012, Kevin Spacey acted in 3 Jameson First Shot short films, last year it was Willem Dafoe and this year it is Uma Thurman. Here she is directed by Jessica Valentine. It takes place at a psychological convalescent home. There is Wendy, who is pretty damn nuts as she thinks she can fly with the help of her backpack, and then there is Jack, who is actually pretty normal, but had a nervous breakdown after his wife told him she has another man and also took the dog with her.The two, of course, make a connection and manage to get Wendy her backpack back. Sadly she decides to start her next flying attempt from the facility's roof. Can Jack arrive in time to save her life. Does he even have to? The ending was a bit predictable and, I did not really enjoy this short film the way I hoped. The sudden transformation back from Wendy when Jack had her backpack was fairly weakly-written in my opinion and the final "learn how to trust again"-quote feels slightly pretentious, especially coming from an insane asylum inmate. Also why is this named "Jump!" if the central character tells repeatedly it is not about jumping, but about flying. I quite liked the paper dog scene with the scissors-blood reference and Thurman gives a good performance though, but I can really only recommend watching this short film if you're a fan of her.
