David James first of all I've heard all the comments about the weak shot. For me this was the reason I watched it. It's a story of young men thrown into conflict with little or no training. And the whole idea of what they see from that enclosed space is for me the most compelling part of the film. As an exercise in claustrophobic atmosphere it wins hands down. This was not a big budget film this wasn't your Private Ryan this was Das Boot set in a tank. Although I agree the tactics and deployment of the tank were at best the logical and against modern warfare theories. It was done for artistic license, which you have to in these situations. More than anything from me it boiled down to a few young men making very grown-up and misinformed decisions. But isn't that the point? In Old Man's War Novel by John Scalzi he explores this very thing. And tries to make the position that until you have lived a life you cannot determine the life of another.
mformoviesandmore I can see what they were trying to do in making this film.A better film might have gotten the anti-war message across.Instead, this is more of an anti-film sort of film. A good idea, with a limited script, poor acting and clichéd scenes gives you - a poor film.I have to admit that I saw this at home. i could, and did, skip sections. many sections. what was the point of watching when you know what is going to be said - and how it SHOULD be portrayed. This involved an Israeli invasion of a neighbouring country, but it could be any conflict as far as the generalised story goes. It was a movie I watched out of a general internet-based recommendation. Ah well. Next time may be better.
jimel98 ihrtfilms did a lovely job reviewing this film and I agree with every word. MY additional comments are based on the fact that I am a VERY nit-picky person when watching a film. I drive people nuts when I point out faults in this or that. With that being said, I can SEE where some might find fault with some of the particular errors in this film (i.e. the lack of helmets) but to be truthful, though I am ONE OF THEM, I was so caught up in the intensity of this film, I didn't even notice the irregularities. This film IS intense and very well acted. I literally was on the edge of the couch I usually lay back on while watching movies and it takes a fair amount to get me on that edge.Lebanon may not be perfect, but it's perfectly good. I could find no fault with it and didn't even try. It sucks you in from the minute it starts. The very fact that you NEVER LEAVE THE TANK is amazing. If you are even remotely claustrophobic, maybe you shouldn't watch this movie. You might be in your own home in a spacious room with windows and everything, but once you get into this movie, you feel like you're with the crew and they won't let you out until the end.I won't say more primarily because, as simple as the story line is, it's a complex movie and to say much, would say TOO much.
Hauk Langlo This movie is about the gunner in an Israel army tank during the Lebanon. The gunner is an pacifist who rather see his fellow soldiers massacred by terrorist rather then opening fire. Apart from that the movie is unrealistic, slow and boring. The only reason many like this movie is it's obvious anti Israel theme. The message seems to be that if you choose to surrender to terrorism you're a good guy. I'm sure that's why it receives so high rankings in Europe. Boring, stupid and provocative. The perspective is all from inside the tank, and most of the time we see the world trough the eyes of the gunners sights. This is achieved by putting crap sound effects acting as the turret servos, a black frame around the picture and a crosshair. This is not very well done and technically speaking and the whole movie is obviously a very low budget production. The realism when it comes to tank warfare is close to zero.
