Synopsis

As a huge electrical storm sweeps towards Texas, lineman Beau Ginner is haunted by memories of his brother's death by lightning years earlier. Since that tragic day, he has raised his niece Bailey and risen to foreman of a lineman team. However, there is friction when Bailey's on-off boyfriend Duncan joins the crew, while another new recruit is hiding PTSD symptoms. Beau and his team are soon putting their lives at risk in a race to replace miles of power cables to keep the electrical grid running before the deadly lightning storm strikes. Based on a true story; this film is a tribute to the heroes who risk it all to keep us safe.

punisherversion1 Life on the Line: Directed by David Hackl and written by Chad Dubea, Primo Brown, Marvin Peart and Peter I Horton. Tomatometer rating is at 0%.Week 7: John Travolta plays a lineman during a serious storm trying to keep things going as nine hundred and fifty three subplots swirl around this disaster of a movie. Oh man what an insult to actual lineman. It's an insult to the real people that they show the pictures at the end of the movie with the sappy and silly country song. This movie is just plain awful. I mentioned it has a ton of subplots. It is convoluted to get to the point where John Travolta has to make a big sacrifice. It's so obvious where all of this is going. We have a stalker subplot, a pregnancy subplot, a cheating subplot, a PTSD subplot and a haunted past subplot. It's too much. It make sense since there are a bunch of writers credited and not enough sure how many more that were not credited. The actors are all one note. They are playing caricatures of "people". I mean come on these were real people and lived real lives. I wouldn't be making this note only because they made it the point. They try to pull at your heartstrings but can't do because none of this syrupy nonsense is real. It has the swelling music. It has a schmaltzy country songs trying to make you feel like they're good hearted hard working regular folks. They're just trying to live their life, their very overly melodramatic soap opera life. They try to make fixing power lines as dramatic as possible. They fail miserably at it. Stay away from this one. It is a huge waste of time and the worst one I've seen yet. I give this movie an F.
Michael Ledo This is based on a true story, we are told and dedicated to the safety conscience linemen who died on the job. The film centers on Beau (John Travolta) a lineman, whose sloppy work, through circumstances ends up killing his brother Danny (Ty Olsson). Danny's wife kisses a truck on her way to the hospital leaving uncle Beau to raise his niece Bailey (Kate Bosworth). 22 years later, bailey has boyfriend issues. Eugene (Ryan Robbins) moves in next door. He has PTSD issues and an alienated wife (Julie Benz). Beau ends up working with Duncan (Devon Sawa) a man he doesn't like because of his relationship with his niece. The whole faux drama builds up to the "day of the storm" which is the film's unfortunate climax. On the plus side Travolta has lost his eerily smooth Botox face, but the role didn't suit him, who we have recently seen as a super black ops guy. I know my linemen don't climb poles during a power storm (stupid and unsafe) and my lights rarely come on before the storm is over. The film glosses over the fact our power grid is old and failing because utilities prefer to reap and share profits than reinvest. However, that is changing, one concrete pole at a time and lines moving underground.Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
adelaidamedrano This is an excellent film. It brings awareness and appreciation to those on the Line. It is unfortunate that it did not bring in the audience that have real appreciation for outstanding writing and actors. I am so glad I did not read the reviews before watching this film. Got to wonder how many movies I have missed by misleading critic and overall reviews. Truly worth watching.
Ed-Shullivan I was so looking forward to this film which is classified as an action/drama film. Mrs. Shullivan and I both worked for the local utility company and we are aware that the risk these lineman (line persons) take working on high voltage systems is real, is extremely dangerous and has led to some unfortunate and untimely deaths.Life on the Line seems to portray all the lineman in this film as having personal demons, a group of hard drinking brothers, who appear to be standing in line waiting to get themselves killed in the line of duty. Even worse than the depressed characters of the main stars of this feature film were all the clichés that were used so often that I started gagging on my popcorn. The film did hold my attention for the first half, but as more and more clichés were expressed by the so-called heroes, and the irritating caption at the bottom of the screen kept appearing with the countdown days to the day of the big storm, you had to know someone was going to lose their "Life on the Line" eh?So the storm comes in more than just by the usual way (no spoiler here) and we see how when a life is lost a new generation of potential line persons are born. I don't think we have to worry about seeing a sequel to this film. Lights out....nothing more to report.
