calummatheson26 In my opinion, the first Ong Bak film had more of a cutting edge thrill ride filled with diverse fight scenes. The use of weponary was a lot more enforced and I could feel the connection between man and weapon in that film. Ong Bak 3 is really good however, the time Tien spends healing himself lingers on for to long for my liking. It felt like a really detailed and in depth process, the director may have gone for this look but didn't appeal to me personally. The fight scene at the end was absolutely glorious, you clearly see how Tien has taking into account his dancing talents and used them to use advantage, I don't like the fact that Tien sort of turned back time after fighting many foes in the courtyard, I think it would have been could if there was less guards and if he had hurt them all. It sort breaches the supernatural as well which I was a bit edgy on when Tien makes the soldiers go all weird. All in all, the film was amazing, I LOVED it, definitely recommend it :)
diggus doggus I take it you have all watched Ong Bak and Ong Bak 2 before and are wondering if this film is on par with the first two; if you haven't, let me clue you in.The first two films in this series have been hailed by many (not everyone, but many) as outstanding martial-arts films, mostly due to the athletic prowess of Toni Jaa, but also because of the purity of the style - in fact, there is little beyond martial arts kick-ass-ness in these films. So, question remains, is Ong Bak 3 as good as its predecessors? Well .. yes. It's still good. But where the first two films had purity, this last instalment has to much random weirdness going on, in short it's got too much film for the quantity of kick-ass it has. If you watch any Ong Bak film, you're certainly not going for the plot, but for the fists and kicks. And let's be frank, Ong Bak 3 delivers in spades; just, not quite as relentlessly as the first two.My final vote on this pretty good action film - 7/10, but *only* for those who love the genre.
ebiros2 Strait sequel to Ong Bak 2, the story continues from where Tien was captured by the enemies. What I like about Ong Bak 2 and 3 are their stunning visuals. I have never seen this type of cinematography, or action sequence in western or other Asian movies. It seems to be unique to this franchise, and I like it. Cultural cues are also interesting to watch, as I am new to Thai cinema.I have no idea why people are complaining about the lack of action in this movie. There's just as much action in this movie as it was in the previous. As a matter of fact, the entire movie is made of one fight scene after another.I don't catch all the story since I don't speak Thai, but this is a beautiful movie to watch. I enjoyed it purely from visual perspective. Tony Jaa was just as good in this one as he was in Ong Bak 2.I enjoyed watching this movie for its beauty, and action.
Sid Lee I love Tony Jaa's previous movies, and watched despite poor stories, simply for the enjoyment of the fight choreography. However, I doubt this will stay in theaters long. The mysticism goes MUCH too far for America audiences and leaves watchers going "huh?". I actually paused half-way through it and started laughing, telling my wife I'm surprised it will be in any American theaters! Short summary: Start - Continuation of previous movie. - Captured and fights captors as they are beating him as punishment. A lot of slow moooooooo as he gets hit. -he gets tortured and beat up with sticks and rams... yet isn't dead, sort of - about to get beheaded (cause he still isn't dead?) but rebels show up to king and demand release in name of other king we never seeMid -rebels get followed by king who never realizes hoodwinked. All rebels die, all assassins die. Tony lays there in lap of girl he loved, appearing dead - Tony get's resurrected from dead by chants, collective statue building and being steamed in holy steamer -tony crippled. Decides to kill himself by throwing himself off cliff, changes mind with wise words from monk -Tony in space of few minutes transforms his broken body by stretching -Tony becomes meditative genius and dancing martial artists again, no more rage -During this demon possessed bad guy takes over entire kingdom with his fighting skills of kicking people through brick walls and nervous head tic.Last -Tony dances more and more -Random bad guys show up and get their butts kicked by meditate Tony -He then finds village destroyed (though within 100 yards of his spot???) -Tony shows up at bad guy castle -Tony goes postal and ends up dieing... only to find this was his meditative genius seeing what would happen if responds a certain way -Tony looks like a martial art messiah, throws his crooked staff in ground, light appears, all bad guys fall down screaming. - Tony proceeds to beat up bad guy with face and bad guy ends up being impaled on elephant tusk. - Tony goes back and bows at previous statue. That's my gist of it. 90% monk mysticism that really makes no sense, no true spiritual message, with 10% fighting. Epic fail.
