Synopsis

It is the year 2022. A mysterious systems failure causes the crew of a spaceship to be stranded on the dark side of the moon, while rapidly running out of fuel and oxygen. They are surprised to discover a NASA space shuttle floating in space, and board it in the hope of salvaging some supplies. One by one, the crew is possessed and killed, and it is up to Paxton Warner to find the links between the dark side of the moon, the Bermuda Triangle, and the Devil himself.

agremlin82 DANGER…, SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERSI'm very surprised that there were so many positive comments about this fine feature film. I'd hate to rain on this parade, but as "drbecker's" comments on April 14, 2011 mentioned, there were a few things that don't really work in this wonderful film. Not even referring to the acting, more the script. The writers really had no idea what they were talking about. The vast majority of the mistakes I saw should not have been allowed to stay in the script. Event Horizon came out years later with the same basic premise, but they did a much better job with the science woven into the plot. This one was a mess. Just a few things I had a problem with…• Minor, but I gotta wonder, the production studio could afford decent replicas of EVA spacesuits which have area lights on the helmets which are never used. They carry hand-held flashlights instead when entering the shuttle. • 2nd in command doesn't tell anyone anything about what he's found out about the Bermuda Triangle (B.T.), maybe important to let the gang in on why they're all screwed. And if they don't believe him he can remind them that they just docked with a 30+ year old spacecraft with no crew or fuel onboard that was never designed to go to the moon. Any far-fetched claims would be looking pretty good by then. Also, you see a crewmember being attacked and you've been locked in the computer room, hey, how about calling somebody else to help her? • It's idiotic to lock-out the rest of the crew from the computer just because you're the ships I.T. specialist. If you die they're screwed. Also, an incredible amount of space wasted by installing a sexy manikin/A.I., unless of course it's used for sex then it's justified. • A demon is in control the ship, shutting down needed systems, locking doors and isolating crewmen and women at the worst possible times. Collecting parts from the derelict would also be expected to fail. Why not blow yourself up now and get it over with. No sense in letting El Diablo mess with your head if you blow your head off. That'll teach him. • Why are they carrying automatic weapons on a spacecraft??? You damage the hull, blow out a window or destroy equipment then you're pretty damn well screwed. • What's the deal with the abdominal slicing and dicing? • Passage behind the moon would only take a matter of 20-40 minutes depending on velocity unless you're hovering in the shadow or falling to the moon's surface. If you're falling it's not going to take 24 hours to hit the dirt, or bite the dust so to speak. And if your velocity was not enough to allow one to get caught in the moons gravity it'll just drift past the moon. • Alignment with the Bermuda triangle to that area of the moon would be constantly changing as the earth spins and the moon orbits the planet. An alignment would only be effective for a few minutes in a day. Additionally, the area they refer to as "the dark side of the moon" is always faced away from the earth so alignment with the B.T. is impossible. • The typical design of the space shuttles contains a command section and a cargo bay. There are not several floors, corridors, compartments, crawl space vents or sunken floor saunas built into it. The cargo compartment is just a big open space. • Why put an orbital missile platform anywhere near the moon. Its 258,000 miles away. Missiles fired from the weapons platform would have to compensate for the moons gravitational field as well as go around the moon; also it's generally more than a day's travel from a high-speed platform compared to an earth orbital platform which can destroy targets in 30 minutes or less or your money back. • Detonating a nuclear weapon within close proximity to your spacecraft is really bad ideas as if it's a space-based missile system the warheads will likely have an incredibly high yield. In other words, there isn't enough sun block in Florida to help you • 1990's era shuttle craft does not have artificial gravity, umbilical lines or a docking tunnel. They don't have traditional fuel tanks, they have maneuvering thrusters only. • You cannot survive for more than a few seconds in zero atmosphere. • Electronics today change from month to month, The relays they spent so much time trying to find will not work in a craft made 30 years later. It could have been better had they even began to understand a principal spacecraft they wrote into the script. This one doesn't support the story line. They could have poised it further into the future, using a craft made 50 years into the future. That along with the writing plot holes, primarily when facts are discovered and you don't inform the rest of the crew. If it slipped his mind this story line is crap.
Aaron1375 Granted I have never actually seen "Event Horizon" all the way through in one viewing. I mainly have seen it in snippets, but I did watch this one all the way through and the plot points I did pick up from Event has some similarities to this lesser known horror film that takes place on the dark side of the moon. This film was okay, interesting enough to keep me entertained during its run. Could have had better pacing and some parts of the film seemed unnecessary like the strange android lady that was laying down throughout all the movie, but still for a low budget film it plays out rather nicely. Crew aboard a space ship loses power and are unable to get help and are running out of oxygen quick. To their surprise a missing ship appears before them and they decide to try and tap into that ships remaining supply of oxygen. However, members of the crew begin to get killed and they begin suspecting each other. There does seem to be something else though behind the killings, but exactly what remains unknown till the end. Just a little added here and there and this movie would have been super. As I have said many times though a lot of horror movies could have been better if they just add a little of this or do a little something to the story. Still, it is an enjoyable enough movie as it is.
Scarecrow-88 What does the Bermuda Triangle, the dark side of the moon, and the Lord of Darkness have in common? If you really want to know, seek out this little obscure sci-fi gem about a ship which begins to malfunction when it gets caught in some sort of gravitational pull. This certain section on the moon called Centrus B 40 is the location for which the Spacecore vessel seems to be heading. Spacecore is a ship with a crew whose job is to fix nuclear armed satellites. As the crew are heading towards the Centrus B 40, they encounter an older model NASA ship which seems to be operational. The malfunctions on the Spacecore have shut down the oxygen so the air is slowly leaving while cold air begins to exceed. This NASA ship just might be a savior for them in disguise. They discover that this ship has air that will provide them with oxygen so the airlock is necessary. Something, however, is on that ship{Discovery 18, to be exact}and it will awaken true terror. They find a dead man on board the Discovery ship named Gotier and there's a triangular hole around his stomach. Soon, the crew will discover what was buried within the Discovery vessel and the film really begins to grow bizarre. Will Bledsoe portrays Giles Stewart, the officer who uncovers unpleasant truths regarding where the Discovery actually comes from, not to mention the dead NASA flight officer. As Giles digs, the Spacecore begins to experience odd occurrences in system malfunctions and something sinister lies within Gotier's body..it will show that no one is safe from a force of evil that can only come from he who is the ultimate symbol of it. This film has a story that might induce laughter or eye-rolling, but if you are willing to give in and understand that this is an entertainment which is highly original and is willing to combine unusual elements into a cohesive whole. It takes several leaps in logic to provide eerie chills and the director is very good at creeping the viewer with those who appear from the dark. What lies within Gotier and how it effects everyone on board the Spacecore, not to mention what mysteries lie within the Discovery builds as the story continues. A good cast helps and the ending is quite a jaw dropper.
lord_malasombra This film just goes to prove what can be done without big stars, a huge Hollywood budget and unnecessary CGI effects. A good story, (if a little iffy), relatively good acting and an air of claustrophobic suspense beaten only by 'Alien'. OK, it's cheap and nasty, but look at the budget Star Wars was filmed on! This movie has no delusions of grandeur, it just delivers within it's own limitations. The basic premise is this, the Devil has to collect 666 souls to re-enter or defy Heaven. He's been using the Bermuda Triangle to collect these souls. This being the future a tenuous link is created between the Triangle and the dark side of the Moon. As it turns out, the crew of a space missile repair team would just complete the numbers. After major systems failures the crew encounter a derelict space shuttle, thought lost, (in the Bermuda Triangle), 20 years before. They board it in the hopes of finding vitally needed supplies and instead find a crew member, dead but perfectly preserved, except for a strange, triangle shaped hole in his stomach. Little realising that this mysterious corpse is in fact the manifestation of the Devil come to collect His final souls, they take the body aboard and begin repairs to their own ship. THIS is where the film really begins!! Using their own fears and desires against them, the Devil "body-hops" from one crew member to another, creating an atmosphere of paranoia and distrust, a la The Thing, intent on nothing but collecting His final souls and 'having it out' with The Powers That Be. Granted, the plot has more holes in it than a super-size colander and the effects are on a par with Space:1999, (which still makes it better than Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica!), but this is a fantastic movie which deserves far more attention than it got. I first saw this in the graveyard slot on Sky, between midnight and 6am, back in '92, and I don't think I've even seen it at the very back of a video shelf since, certainly not on any market stalls, which I think is a damn shame for a fine movie sadly overlooked. If you get the chance, WATCH THIS FILM. OK, it's easy to spot what it's mimicking and to make fun of the effects, but this is a darn good way to spend 90 minutes and remember what films where when they weren't just an exercise in computer programmers skill, or lack thereof.
