huggibear This was kind of a cool and different movie from Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. It was a newer movie, but dated back in the 1940's when Pearl Harbor was going down. I thought it was done very well considering today's filming of many decades ago. Nice job Hallmark Movies & Mysteries! 8 Stars from me!
SnoopyStyle It's 1944. Well educated Olivia Dunne (Keri Russell) from Denver got pregnant out of wedlock by a passing serviceman. She is sent to La Junta, Colorado to marry lonely reserved farmer Ray Singleton (Skeet Ulrich). Both had suffered lost. Ray has only his sister Martha (Mare Winningham) and her family. The farm is isolated and the couple is alone. Olivia is hesitant about Ray despite his efforts to please her. She continues to try to contact the baby's father but receives no reply. She befriends sisters Florence (Tania Gunadi) and Rose (Gwendoline Yeo) who are interned Japanese Americans. Her sister Abby's husband got drafted and Abby tries to get her to return to Denver to keep her company. This is a nice romance and much better made than most other TV romance movies. Keri Russell is amazing. She is enchanting and a compelling actress. Skeet Ulrich does a great job but it would have been good to get a plainer looking actor. It would fit the character better. It does take a very sharp turn into drama at the end. A little bit of foreshadowing of the danger would be very helpful. The central romance is touching and the story is as beautiful as the butterflies.
wynne Lovely movie, subtle and well acted in major and minor roles. Funny at times, the way country characters can be funny once you know them. Beautifully filmed, and gorgeous music.I loved the slow telling of the story. How the characters were kept apart by philosophy (city vs country), nature (hurt vs shy) and interests (world vs home). I loved how so much was shown in body language, and how her prejudice was erroneous, although not malicious, and not entirely tolerated by Ray despite his patience. I loved how much he loved her - and understood that she disliked herself. The downside of the movie is the internment camp and POW story. I agree with others that it was a distraction and not entirely believable, and not necessary. I fast forward through that section. Not a movie for Van Damme fans.
Kwantic In a day and age when movies are often filled with profanity, sexual content, and violence, along comes a gem like this one. The whole family can watch this film without worrying about "content". Skeet Ulrich and Keri Russell do a wonderful job acting in this movie, and the supporting cast is excellent. The story revolves around a young women (Russell), who's pregnant out of wed lock, and is forced into an arranged marriage with a farmer (Ulrich), during World War II. This movie also teaches a few life lessons, such as forgiveness, and the difference between sex and love. An enjoyable way to spend a hour and a half of you're time. You won't regret watching this film.
