Maurene I generally like this kind of movie - young female lead, romantic, historical setting, with a fantasy/mystical element. This movie didn't disappoint but it also didn't leave much of an impression. My biggest gripe is that it was too rushed. The lead character's 24 hour deadline meant there wasn't much time to develop relationships. This was especially problematic with the love interest (Lucy/Robert) and we're forced to take it as love at first sight. I thought they did well with the Lucy/Nellie friendship though. My other minor gripes was that the lead actress was too old and I thought she wore an obvious wig. But, the acting was pretty good. I like Rutger Hauer playing creepy guys. And I thought Judy Parfitt added credibility to the movie. It appeared to be set in a real historic house/castle. I appreciate that the movie didn't try too hard or get too sentimental and it made its point in a very straight-forward manner.
say1978 The Ruby Ring, another story of a rich spoiled girl learning a lesson as to what is really important. I loved this movie! Of course I knew the ending, anyone with brains would know the ending to this movie, but it was an enjoyable ride. Emily Hamilton plays Lucy, the rich girl and Christien Anholt (Relic Hunter) plays Robert Langley, the boy she falls in love with when her ruby ring transports her back in time. I'm not going to tell you all about the movie, because they're all the same, but I will say this one was good. No sex or nasty stuff, no bad language so it's actually good for the kids too! Watch it, you'll enjoy it.
sandraemerson I really liked the movie. I have also read the book, and even though they have definite differences between them, I still think that it was a good film. I happened to see the movie on a Saturday morning, when I was looking through the guide. Since I had read the book before I saw the movie, I had presumptions as to what it would be like. I have to admit though, that it did have a good amount of similarities to the book (which I liked as well).
Freddie-6 I watched this by chance on a cold winter's afternoon. It turned out to be a treasure beautifully filmed and acted. One of those old fashioned movies with no sex or violence etc.The story was very predictable..but who cares?. I predict a bright future for Emily Hamilton who played Lucy.I gave it 9/10.
