Josh Anderson OK, so the idea of a signal being broadcast over all TV and radio that drives people mad and causes mass hallucinations is a great story idea. Also, though there was a slight "B" feel to this flick, the cinematography and acting really weren't bad. I even liked some of the layering of the story. However, I am sick of movies making killing, death and gore so cheap and meaningless - not even for moral reasons, but because it just makes the plot unbelievable, un-relatable and gives the writing crutches to get over impossible situations. Also, I get angry at cheating little skanks like Maya and so I'm secretly rooting for Lewis, but no- he's made out to be the bad guy in the end. And my biggest problem with this movie is that it never explains the source of the signal! (Or did I miss it?) Is it from a terrorist organization? Is it alien? We'll never know. Also, the movie finishes with all kinds of loose ends, there is never any resolution. What happens in Terminus? Does the signal ever quit? Does everyone in the town just kill everyone? What is the rest of the world's reaction? ***The end I was hoping for: The signal caused massed hysteria and hallucinations causing people to believe they needed to, and were killing everyone. However, in the end it is revealed no one ever harmed a single person and everyone was using toys and rubber knives on each other! There! Better ending, right? I think so.
meghana-meggy The Signal is a psychological-horror-apocalypse movie, with elements of black comedy. No it does not have zombies. After watching the trailer, I thought the plot might be something about the hero trying to save his girl, in the midst of chaos, but the movie is much more, much different than that. I'd even go as far to say that at some points the movie felt like a Tarantino flick.Don't watch this movie if you don't expect it to make you think of a deeper meaning than just the blood and gore. The film throws you a curve ball when you realize that the movie would still make complete sense, if the "transmission video" thing was completely absent from the plot. *************The following text may contain spoilers.******************It tells you the way humans kill each other, the way they imagine things, the mistrust humans feel and the way their emotions and behavior change, at times to such an extent that they actually come to hate themselves for what they've become. Sometimes the only way to survive in this world is cover your ears, tune out the noise and just try to be yourself. That's how I interpreted the movie.
Tadas Talaikis I rated this 10/10 because it has some great theoretical foundation ("media making people zombies") unlike countless others that make zombies out of vampires ("The Strain"), drinking contaminated water, etc. This movie also has good comedy elements too of "walking dead" sitting and watching the T.V. In one short sentence - "shut up and watch your T.V." Reminds me old old idea of Jack Kerouac "hating" people behind windows that emit blue.As Eastern European I see how this movie is done in reality, in Russia. A lot of people there are now like crazy zombies shouting with rage about "Putin for world President".Movie even offers solution for such zombism - to think with our own independent head and make choice to discern hallucinations from reality. Well, this movie can be understood not by kids, sorry.
warlikesavant Is it an original idea? No. But in this day and age how often do we see an original idea. Everything made these days is a remake or a mesh of various films or characters. Maybe I've seen to many movies. But when I watch new movies now, I can't help but trace the plot or situation back to another movie. That being said. I enjoyed watching this movie. I never questioned the characters or there motives. They had purpose, even though it was lunacy. And of course it's not your typical ending, but that's what I loved about it. Who wants to watch the same cookie cutter endings? I'm tired of the norm. This movie made an effort and I was entertained.
