Synopsis

Bruno wakes up in bed next to Caroline, his long time crush. But tomorrow she's off for school in France, and maybe she only granted this miracle as a parting gift for her long time friend. So tonight is Bruno's last chance. And tonight, as it happens, Broken Social Scene, her favourite band, is throwing a big outdoor bash. Maybe if Bruno, with the help of his best pal Blake, can score tickets and give Caroline a night to remember, he can keep this miracle alive.

SnoopyStyle Bruno is overjoyed to be waking up next to his 15 year crush Caroline Rush (Georgina Reilly). It's Toronto summer 2009. There's a garbage strike, the Indy's in town, and the band Broken Social Scene is playing. It's Caroline's favorite band and her last night before going back to Paris. Bruno's friend Blake brags that Bruno could get her backstage. Bruno struggles to get them into the concert and then backstage.Director Bruce McDonald is basically doing a concert film incorporating an indie love story. It doesn't really work as either but it's interesting to have both interacting. One does have to be a fan of the music to like this. The concert is fine but McDonald needs to have longer sections with only the band to fully immerse in their vibe. As for the love story, it kinda works until she walks off some unknown reason. The movie takes a bohemian turn at the end and it's an odd interesting but unsatisfying finish.
dacrez This Movie Is Broken is either a blatant self promotional film for the band Broken Social Scene or the writers truly lack any talent and had to compensate for their lack of skill and/or writers block by putting a live concert in to fluff out and fill 90% of their script. To even suggest that this is a movie is misleading. It's an hour and a half music clip showing a live band (Broken Social Scene) intermingled with perhaps a total of 10 minutes of actual dialogue and 'storyline' about the characters.I can't even imagine how anyone can even call this a movie other than the fact that it's comprised of a series of still images strung together.Unless you want to sit and watch Broken Social Scene play live for almost an hour and a half, avoid this film.I have seen music clips tell a better tale in less than 5 minutes. The movie summary for this film has almost the whole story in it.
marcsparc I am guessing that with 14 members in the band, each knowing 5 people, it is possible for this to have a high rating. Based on watching and listening to this band though, you'd have to wonder the quantity of drugs that were ingested prior to their performance. This is a hodge-podge of mediocrity and self aggrandizement. This band claims to be Toronto's band, much in the same way that the SkyDome was Toronto's attempt to be a sports capital. If you need to kill some time, try picking your toes, at least it offered me more entertainment than this lame wannabe attempt at being cool.
dupamaryny I am really sorry for this but this movie was awful. I wasted my time by this movie on Film Festival In Hamburg 2010. I saw on this festival (2007) beautifully production "Who loves the sun" and thought that the Canadian movies have every time good level. I was wrong. OK, the story to catch his old girl love and on the same day to sleep with his friend was OK. If someone like to be bisexual than should be, why not. But the music, the music in this film was nightmare. The Canada has hundred of excellent musicians. One of them is Feist. I don't understand why she plays there – but in fact it was the highlights of the movie. Please, if someone likes to make boring jam session, than please do this, but at home. Please don't make films about it and shows another people. I have done nothing wrong in my life to punishment me on this way.
