Mr_Ectoplasma "Witchery" focuses on a family looking to purchase a building on a Massachusetts island. Upon visiting, they become stranded in a storm, and unfortunately for them, the island is riddled by malevolent hauntings. It's difficult to know quite what one is in for in a late-eighties horror flick starring David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair, anyone's guess is probably close to the reality. Tagged as a sequel to the minor but effective "Ghosthouse" (though entirely unrelated), this film is the epitome of exploitative camp, full of grotesque set-pieces and hamfisted dialogue. The film's narrative-or at least, what there is of it-splinters off with each member of the group who are haunted by the dead lurking within a former hotel on the island. For what it's worth, the film is quite atmospheric, and there really is never a dull moment-any lull in pacing is virtually filled by the grotesque gore effects, which are elaborate and nasty, in true Italian fashion.Overall, "Witchery" is a 'good' bad film. The setting and scares are enjoyable in spite of often being quite hokey, and I can't bring myself to knock anything with Linda Blair in it, even with what little she has to work with here. "Witchery" really epitomizes the slew of Italian horror films of the eighties that strived toward American sensibilities: It's gory, it's gritty, and it's completely bonkers. 6/10.
atinder Witchcraft (1988)is name of this movie on my DVD Just found this is now called Witchery (1988) Not to be confused with Witchcraft (1988) (I Like I did)I thought it was it the other witchcraft but so I didn't expect to see David Hasselhoff and Linda BlairThe movie start of in the women running away from some and soon Jumps out of window for some reason but the movies fast When a storm strands a group on a Massachusetts island where the only dwelling is an old hotel supposedly haunted by the ghost of a former German actress (Knef), the result is the standard horror film as each of the cast is picked off one-by-oneThis was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, It never get boring at all, there were decent death scenes in this movie. There few bloody moments in the movie I really liked, I wasn't to keen it the end the story.it's felt too rushed and I didn't really get the last scene in the movie. The acting was really good from most of the castI give 4 out of 10, worth watching
queenankh I have only seen it a few times but each time it freaked me out! I'm not a horror fan by any means, usually I can't take it but this film is unique in it's ability to entertain you. I remember curling up in my best friend's bed as we watched a pregnant woman jump out of window to avoid the creepy Lady in Black. I loved the attempt to be recreate the fear and paranoia of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" (1965), while using The Hoff to move the story on. That's all he is there for. As the photographer with the virgin girlfriend on the premises without permission, it does seem a little obvious what will happen but it's still cool. I gave it an 8/10 because I really enjoyed the film. I know it's no blockbuster and it's not exactly well made but I still like it.
BA_Harrison An Italian/American co-production co-starring Linda Blair and David 'The Hoff' Hasselhoff: how could any fan of trashy horror resist such a treat?Well, based on the uneventful, extremely tedious, and utterly nonsensical first forty minutes or so, I would have said 'very easily'; thankfully, however, things do eventually get a tad more entertaining with the introduction of several inventive death scenes, and for those lucky enough to find an uncut copy, a smattering of nudity too (unfortunately, my copy was optically edited to remove such offensive material). The Hoff stars as Gary, a photographer who accompanies his beautiful girlfriend Leslie (Leslie Cumming) to a run-down hotel on a seemingly deserted island in order to take pictures for her latest project, a book about witches; whilst there, frustrated Gary also hopes to try and cure a bad case of blue balls by relieving Leslie of her virginity. His plans for nookie are scuppered, however, by the unexpected arrival of property developers Freddie and Rose Brooks (Robert Champagne and Annie Ross), their pregnant daughter Jane (Blair), son Tommy (Michael Manchester), pretty nymphomaniac architect Linda Sullivan (Catherine Hickland), and estate agent Jerry (Rick Farnsworth), who have come to inspect the island's hotel. After explaining their unexpected presence on the island, Gary and Leslie are welcomed by the property's new owners, and when a violent storm suddenly picks up, making it perilous to return to the mainland, everyone agrees to spend the night in the old building. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the hotel's new guests, the place is also home to the spirit of an evil witch (Hildegard Knef), who requires human sacrifices in order to bring herself back to life. One by one, victims are pulled into a swirling red vortex (which is guaranteed to provide unintentional laughs), before meeting a terrible fate.None of this makes much sense, and the acting is atrocious (Manchester as Tommy is particularly bad, whilst Hasselhoff proves to be one of the better performers, which speaks volumes about the others), but those viewers who make it past the dreary first half are rewarded with some pretty decent moments of gore: Rose has her lips sewn together, before being roasted alive in a fireplace; Jerry is crucified and burnt alive; Linda is tortured by hags and impaled on a swordfish(!!); Freddie's veins pulsate and erupt in geysers of blood; and Gary gets stabbed in the back.Oh, and Leslie is raped by a guy with no lips and Blair gets possessed (again).
