Reviews

The-Kurgan I haven't seen this show since it originally aired, so I'd have to say my comments are about as pure as you can get, without the bias of time. Yeah, I'm sure if I saw it now on Nick or someplace, I'd probably cringe (that's what happened when I saw Man from Atlantis again after all these years, a "great" show that now I see was pretty cheesy). Still, the true test of a TV show is whether the viewer likes it, and remembers it, and brudduh, lemme tell ya, in the '70s I remember thinking this show was simply the hippest cartoon on the box. Anyone remember the Wonder Bread trading cards? There were 16 cards in the set (each spotlighting a Saturday morning show), and you'd get one in every new loaf you bought (they did it again later when Star Wars came out, and I collected those, too). One of those cards was a Butch & Sundance Kids card, and as silly as it sounds, it was a treasured item. I never once mentally compared the show to Scooby Doo, and considering that concept now, Scooby'd lose the fight. Butch & Co. weren't copies of it, they, and all shows like it, were simply fitting into a popular mold of the time.So yeah, it may be a goofy, cheesy cartoon, but it was a lot of fun, and I'll always remember it fondly.
merilee112 I love this show, this is excellent! Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a Scooby Doo ripoff! As you can tell from my login name, Merilee is my out and out favorite, not just because I like Judy Strangis, but because she was one of the first smart blondes on TV! She helped break the stereotype!Lots of stereotypes were broken on this show, the leader was a sweet gentileman instead of a bossy know-it-all (ahem, Fred Jones), hardly anyone was mean to the coward expect for maybe his sister, no one got kidnapped or held for ransom..they all worked together as a team. No one was setting traps and using someone as bait. love the songs as well, they're catchy and they stay in your head.I think this was the unfortunate outcome of bad timing.I hope more people can catch this show when it's on Boomerang, I know they'll love it!
Brian Washington This was one of the most forgettable cartoons of the 1970's. This show tried to be part Monkees, part Scooby Doo and part spy thriller, but it was all garbage (ironically, one of the actors supplying the voices for this stinker was none other than Micky Dolenz of the aforementioned Monkees). The only memorable character on the show was the band's boss, a huge super computer that was allergic to the band's fleabitten mutt. And the less said about the songs the better. This was just another lame attempt to use a cartoon as a way of selling bubblegum pop songs to unsuspecting kids. Someone forgot to tell the producers that "bubblegum" went out with Kasenetz-Katz and the Archies. Too bad Hanna and Barbera had to dirty their hands with this garbage.
johnscook I never saw this show when I was a kid. It was on Cartoon Network one day and my daughter (7 yrs old) wanted to watch it.I immediately took it as a direct rip off of Scooby Doo - the characters, including a dog, visual style, cheap animation and barely a story to follow. The only real difference is that they sing as a band, and that's not a plus for this show. After about a couple of minutes of watching the show, my daughter looked at me and said that she thinks this was Scooby Doo when they (the characters) were younger. Can't fool a 7-year-old either!
