lisa-rolfy Forgive my bad English, but I must say that that the story was so very good that I really hope for a second season. The female detective, played by Carey Muligan, is the closest to any female role I've encountered that is somewhat close to the character of Modesty Blaise. Differences may be huge, but what they have in common is the fight for rightness that in a way that goes beyond any story thats has male protagonists.Kip Glaspie "senses", as she herself explains, the thruth and follows her instinct all the way until the audience understands the complexity of the affair told. This is a story of how a female heroine uses her understanding of the system to find the killers and at the same time enlight viewers of the difficult situation we ask immigrants to accept in their efforts to start a new life. Extra plus to actress Nicola Walker that never fails a sensitive role of character.
daveylownyc I'm not sure if the naysayers watched the same program I did. I found this miniseries one of the smartest things David Hare has ever written. A suspenseful series for adults with a fine cast l d by a wonder Carey Mulligan.
Bene Cumb On the usual line, "BBC" is a sign of high quality, and I have seen lots of good series even from recent years (e.g. Broadchurch, Luther, Endeavour, Lewis and many others), so any other production excites my interest, particularly when the number of episodes is not too big - enabling to follow in a compressed way. Plus names like Mulligan or Simm - the result could be catchy hours? But alas not this time - not to a great degree. Apparently, the creators wanted to stress their own positive agenda, but all this at the expense of thrill and witty twists and turns, with several unnecessary characters and sidelines not providing any additional value to the main storyline. The wrongdoers were revealed too soon and the ending resembled a round-up of a US romantic film, not providing full satisfaction. This series is a good example that multiple good character actors are unable to save an arid and politically correct script. Even in the 2010ies, there are dozens of British series better than Collateral. Thus, not a must-watch, but no wtf! work either. You have all been warned :)
emceegrammar I'm puzzled by the low reviews. I thought that this mini-series was interesting, well-acted, with interesting connections among the characters. Carey Mulligan was fantastic and was the great strength to the show. Probably the show's weakness was with some of the dialogue. It seemed unnatural in places.
