After watching the first season and a half of this, I have to ask that. These characters are doing the same stuff they were doing 30 years ago. The characters fall right into their familiar roles. Grey, Duffy and Hagman are doing the same kinds of things. Maybe if they called this "Dallas, the Next Generation" and let the younger characters take the series off into a new direction, that might be interesting, but it's the same old stuff. The only saving grace of the series was that Larry Hagman was still a treat to watch as J.R. Ewing. And of course, with Mr. Hagman's death and the way the producers are treating it in a way that would make Ed Wood Jr. cringe, the series is going to be less interesting to watch in the march to inevitable cancellation.

This show is absolutely pathetic and lacking any significant structure based on the original series. The screenwriters' weak intent to recreate the characters and storyline from the original show was a failure. It's actually putting Bobby, JR, Sue Ellyn, and Cliff Barnes on "Depends" and to have to carry this sinking vessel without the real old guys like Jock and Miss Ellie who are gone and long forgotten. The "kids" in this show are totally ridiculous, unbelievable, weak character development and expression, the story lines worthless, plot too predictable, and the future of the show is VERY short term. It's like watching an extended pilot that never got off the ground. Larry Hageman's death will have a disastrous effect on this series. Without JR the show will die. This is the classic villain we've all come to love. Can't see anybody in the current cast capable of replacing this character as the protagonist in the series. We've already quit taping this junk.

Well, well, well... ...as probably one of the biggest fans of the original series (and a German tourist who actually visited Southfork as some sort of "sacred" place in 2003) I must admit that I actually didn't know about the new series until it had already started. Having watched the first season now I must say that I don't care about glitches in the plot, far-fetched stories and somewhat ludicrous biographies. The question I asked myself is: Was I entertained? And the answer is: YES YES YES! J.R. is better than ever, actors' performances (even those of Chris and John Ross) are sometimes (not always) superb. After all those years of abstinence it was about high time to see the Ewings back in the ring. I thank you TNT!!!

beautiful cast.. dastardly schemes.. family feuds.. and sub plots galore throw in a few familiar faces.. a pout from sue ellen and a few heart stopping glares from JR. mix it all up with lashings of crude oil and some slightly questionable acting and what do you get? DALLAS that's what! I wanted to hate it but I cannot lie its just great TV. Im already hooked, i was from the first episode. and that theme tune. boy oh boy it brings back memories, who shot JR, bobby in the shower.. dusty.. and poor old cliff barnes.. will he ever get one up on JR? tune in next week to find out ;-) If you enjoyed the original then do give the new one a chance, you wont be disappointed.welcome back. fab stuff ;-)
