I really enjoyed it. Maybe not a great show, but definitely worth watching. It has its own distinct style.

Seriously helix just takes the cake. theres no comparing it. its got virus zombies, science, some action, mystery, thrill, and major drama and happening in virtually every episode. not a dull moment but not all cliched and overdone. The acting is very real, I keep rewatching it hoping they'll do season 3. All the greatest shows always get cancelled and idiotic fake ones get 5 seasons. Most people watch on the internet now and they still havent figured out how to calculate that into their views to know which shows are more popular.

I started watching this on Netflix and after the first four episodes was thinking about abandoning it. It seemed to be somewhat rudderless and it was difficult to see where it might be going. Then, in the space of a couple of episodes, it picked up dramatically and showed the invention and imagination that had been lacking at the beginning. It takes a while to get used to the characters but it's worth it and by the end of the first series it's obvious that there is a talent behind the writing. Series two makes the most of the multi-layered approach and the teasing way in which the audience finds out about pertinent details. It's fun and gory. It's uncomplicated but at the same time demands considerable attention from the viewer. A real shame that it was cancelled as the series could easily have developed to become something exceptional.

I'm writing this more than a year after I last saw the episodes. I don't remember all the details, but I remember my reactions to the show as it was airing. I have to agree with most of the reviewers. Completely bizarre production. Intriguing premise but it got buried under waves and waves of strange conspiracies, weirdness for weirdness' sake, scenes created for shock value and more.It seems that, at some point, the writers and producers realized how wild the concept was getting, so they just went with it. Come up with more strangeness and see how far they could spin everything around and grind it up to see what came out the other side. I will say that the show was unusual for Syfy and for science fiction. I think it was influenced by American Horror Story (which I haven't seen), mostly in the resetting of the story universe each season. I think AHS does that. That happened with Helix when they moved from the Arctic base to the tropical island. I don't pretend to make any sense of it, nor do I think there was much sense to be made. I'm sort of glad I sat through it. Real life can sometimes be dull, depressing or mundane. Even if this show wasn't that coherent, it provided moments of true weirdness. That has to count for something, doesn't it?
