Synopsis

Little Princess is a children's animated television series. Directed by Edward Foster, it debuted in the United Kingdom in 2006 and is currently shown there as part of Channel 5's Milkshake! and – as Y Dywysoges Fach – in the children's programming strand Cyw on the Welsh language channel S4C. In English, the stories are narrated by Julian Clary, who also provides the voice of the cat Puss. Jane Horrocks provides the voice of the Little Princess. The series is based on the original books by Tony Ross and follows the success of Ross's 1986 book 'I Want My Potty', which was also turned into a 5 minute short film. Great Uncle Walter is voiced by Brian Blessed and General, Prime Minister, Gardener and Chef are all voiced by Colin McFarlane.

Reviews

paulmcclements Little princess Is brilliant it's the only programme my little boy watches and he goes nuts for the theme tune. The actors who do the voices are what make it watchable for me and my wife, in particular Julian Clary Is hilarious. It's just a shame they haven't made more series as I seem to watch the same ones over and over again, a bit like faulty towers. I've seen some really negative reviews about the little princess but I think they must have a screw loose. I can't recommend this highly enough.
gbozoki This show is entirely inappropriate for little children. The main character 'Little Pricess' is a spoiled, screaming, obnoxious, miserable 3- or 4-year old brat that doesn't care about anything or anyone except herself and is mean to all people around her.She has a weak King and Queen for parents and some servants but all these people are depicted as slaves who have no opinions about anything and solely exist to cater to the little girl. The purpose of a kids' cartoon would be to teach the kids about real life and to have stories with morals and to teach about desirable behavior and how to recognize and deal with undesirable behaviors. This show does none of that - actually it actively encourages anti-social, mean behavior and the adult characters support this with their own behavior and speech. The voice acting is atrocious: the voice of the little princess is worse that nails on a chalkboard and the rest of the voices are not too much better, either.Watching the same kid movie over and over again can be mentally tiring for parents but this show stands out in how bad it is. Avoid this at all costs and make sure you prevent your kids from watching this trailer trash.
puddiphutt Little Princess is a lovely wee show that kids will enjoy, probably as much as my two do. Princess seems to be your average 4-5 year old with the typical self-absorption you find in that age group. Her parents, the lovely down-to-earth king and queen (who wears her crown over a head scarf), are not afraid to say 'no' to their daughter and usually find a way to turn her odd demands into a learning experience. The show teaches without lecturing and is entertaining. It's also easy for a parent to listen to without sending them completely barmy like many other children's programmes. Julian Clary is a wonderful narrator and Jane Horrocks makes a fantastic Princess (I've found the broad accent does require some explaining to my littlies who are Aussies and not used to it).On the whole, Little Princess seems to be a nice return to the near-innocence (and I stress 'near') of kiddies' shows from 20-odd years ago.
Laura Kidd My daughter and I watch this together and we both enjoy it. It is the French dubbed version which, I admit contains pleasant voices (I am not sure if I would enjoy the English version with Julian Clary). The stories are all based on the type of ideas that enter a little persons head and even I find it interesting to see how the different personage resolve the ups and downs of the stubborn little princess. The graphics are basic but pleasing to the eye and I like the fact that it is not too modern. It contains interesting characters who all have different habits and relationships with the little princess.I would fully recommend this to anyone that has a little girl who like the idea of being a princess (and the Mum's should enjoy it too!).
