Synopsis

The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys was a live-action television series that aired in 1992. The series aired 11 episodes before it was canceled. The show focuses on three Sea Monkeys—Dave, Bill and Aquarius —and their creator, The Professor. Others appearing in the short-lived series included Stephen Furst, Gilbert Gottfried, Larry Melman and Vernon Wells. The concept of the show derived from the popular Sea Monkeys product, successfully marketed in the 1970s with a series of comic book ads designed and illustrated by Joe Orlando, later Vice President of DC Comics and Associate Publisher of Mad. Produced by CBS, the series aired in the United States and Australia. The unusual character designs derive from the fantasy characters in the ads that Orlando drew for Harold von Braunhut, creator of the product. The plot revolved around the notion that the Professor had accidentally enlarged three sea monkeys to human-size, and plotlines followed their ensuing comical ineptness in the world. Each Sea Monkey displayed a certain odd character trait: Aquarius could not keep a secret, Bill was afraid of an Imperial, Pennsylvania man named Derek Allen and Dave would grow excited at the sound of polka music.

bigalhurl I especially liked the episode Home Alone. This was especially funny because I was an alarm installer and the Seamonkeys putting in the alarm system themselves was hilarious. The sad part is I've about seen all the techniques used over the years they employed. I would pay for this on DVD easily. NOTIFY ME IF IT IS AVAILABLE!! CBS please consider it... Or better yet just sell me the rights to the show! The show was actually ahead of its time and with a little updating and possible Howie Mandel appearances could be a hit!!! If possible could I get some info on archive purchases? I would be interested in a private copy if thats possible I loved the show and really would be interested in seeing it again!!!
BOLTZ2U i agree with the last reviewer that the "the amazing live sea monkeys" were awesome and the success of the show is due to one person in particular, the GREAT BRILLIANT, TALENTED AND "AMAZING", peter pitofsky, THAT DUDE IS THE CURLY OF OUR GENERATION. i can only hope and pray that "the amazing live sea monkeys" will come out on a deluxe DVD edition set with some way coooool extras and i'm sure they got hours of peter pitofsky's hilarious outtakes, that alone is worth the price of the set. please get this out on video now mr. mcnamara or who ever has control...CBS television MAYBE, BUT JUST GET THIS OUT!!!!!!!! oh...the gifted impressionist who does the "jerry lewis', "dean martin" etc. is john mariano, he was a semi regular on "caroline in the city" i loved his character on the show and was miffed why they stopped using him after a few appearances as he surely was one of the most funny when he was in a scene, but then Hollywood never really realizes great talent...with sean macnamara's success as a big feature director maybe he can do a full lengh feature of "the amazing live sea monkeys" only if peter pitofsky comes back and hey make john mariano one of the other sea monkeys...cooooooooool
Scaarge This show was a lot of fun, pity it only lasted about eight or nine episodes. The premise was that Howie Mandel, a foreign-accented scientist, accidentally brought three microscopic sea monkeys into the human world, enlarging them to human size as well. The sea monkeys looked exactly the way they did in all those old comic-book ads.The scripts basically played like some long-lost Three Stooges shorts, with the three sea monkey brothers getting into various kinds of trouble due to their unfamiliarity with the surface world (and their natural ineptness). Guest stars included Gilbert Gottfried, Stephen Furst, Larry "Bud" Melman, Vernon Wells and others. There was also a fellow who did great imitations (Robert DeNiro, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin). Eliza Schneider (who now does voices for South Park) played their friend and confidant. Her father was always trying to get rid of the sea monkeys but always ended up foiled.Curly, Larry and Moe--excuse me, Bill, Aquarius and Dave--ought to be re-shown on Nick at Night or something. Or perhaps a deluxe collector's issue DVD!
