OK, I just came here to say, enough with all the foolish reviewers who think there is a "laugh track" in this or ANY show. Laugh tracks haven't been used for over 30 years. These shows are filmed in front of a live studio audience. They do this not (only) to add the sound of a real audience reacting, but to gauge how well the jokes are working. If you ever been to a live taping, you'd see them play the scene, and if any of the jokes got no reaction, and you're paying attention, you'll see the writers huddling in a corner, literally writing new jokes on the spot, printing them out, and doing the scene again. You're thinking "geez, then it would take many many hours to film a sitcom!" Well, you'd be right. That's why sometimes they feed you, they have games and prizes while the director/writer/cast work out a scene, etc. They might "sweeten" the sound of the laughs some time, but in my experience, they don't need to. The audiences that are generally there are fans, and usually they love the show they're seeing, and they LAUGH. So please stop whining about the "laugh track". If you don't like shows that are filmed in front of a studio audience, then watch Modern Family, or The Mindy Project, or The Middle or The Simpsons, or New Girl, etc. etc.

It is so hard to get into this show today when you were so use to watching the original Odd Couple show. No one can be such a slob as Jack Klugman, he played that role so good. I'm not saying I hate the new show, it has it's good laughs. Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon do a great job to be Oscar and Felix. It's hard to fill the shoes of the original cast but they do a great job. Each episode does keeps your attention because you never know what is going to happen next. If you blink you will miss some funny thing. The thing I see wrong is that they have changed Oscar and Felix since the original show. If you are going to keep the same characters then at least keep the way they live the same. Oscar Madison was a complete slob but in the new show he is not even close to that role. I really don't see this show going to much further. It's to far away from the original show.

After seeing the first Season my vote is a 3 because I think the creators intentions are well, However, while at times I got a few chuckles it is very different, I suppose for a younger generation who have not seen or grew up watching the original this just maybe something they like as many of the gags and jokes will cater to this generation. While I like Perry and Lennon I really don't feel they are suited for these roles. As actors they naturally need to make the characters their own, Perry tries to hard at times and that's when he fails and falls short. Perry in my opinion does not play a good Oscar and Lennon while he is decent does not play a good Felix. I tried this and gave it a chance, its OK but its not for me, So I will stick with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall as I have all the original UN-edited episodes on DVD.

It just doesn't work. My expectations for TV sitcoms is extremely low to begin with. I don't expect much. With Mathew Perry and Thomas Lennon being two of my favorites, my limited expectations were slightly raised. They shouldn't have been. Lennon tries very hard to carry the show and does an admirable job. But it's geared to be a buddy-show and Perry isn't holding his end of the bargain. Whether it's an attempt at a "style" of comedy - or he's just mailing it in, I can't be sure. But it falls deadly flat. Throw in an awful canned laughter, and horrible stereo-type supporting characters (Usual Yvette Brown) the show is a complete miss and will be canceled soon. The fact it's back for a 2nd season is a complete shock to me and doesn't say much for the current landscape of network "comedies."
