sholacole-43023 From the trailer on channel four to the actual Top Boy series showings - Top Boy is a brilliant drama series showing the London Street life. The shows had been nominated and won many TV entertainment awards and is one of those gripping dramas that if you have it on box set you want to keep watching. I got through the two series of Top Boy in eight hours. The acting was great by both the actors and those acting who are grime artists such as scorcher, Asher d and Kano. Top Boy should have come back for another series as its story line is excellent which not only shows the perspective of adults in London's gangs but also the children's perspective in organised crime.Top Boy is a cleverly, well written drama with good soundtracks and a good London drama
Paul Creeden It would be nice to live in a universe where the vast majority of decent people got the leading parts in life as well as in media. This production is not of any ideal universe, but its production values are decent. The acting is pretty flat. The writing is shallow and predictable. Sharon Duncan-Brewster stands out as a person struggling with mental illness and advocating for a son who is barely skating on the line between thug and decent person. Her representation of Lisa avoided stereotype and cliché. Nicholas Pinnock, who played Leon, also managed to portray a character torn between worlds with more than one dimension. As for the criminal class, they handed in their usual. Ashley Waters mastered the far-off stare in lieu of a better script for his part. Kane Robinson as Sully was suitably doltish and brutal. I would not rush back to the series on Netflix. It is time we got better stories about the minority experience which did not involve drugs and crime as the central themes.
akupm To start, 'Top Boy' was a gritty London show that exposed Dushane running a street level gang in Summerhouse. What I've enjoyed about the content was that the gritty setting did not focus on chaotic youth gangs but organised crime that youngsters got caught up in. Furthermore, Dushane's company had to face a fat obstacle, The London Fields ran by Kamale Lewis. I was trapped into complete confusion that drug debt collector Lee Greene accused Dushane of getting robbed instead of helping him recover a debt. What is more, gangsters like Lucky Luciano and Joe Bonnano would not of operated on that impulsive level. They would of done the complete opposite. What aggravated the circumstances was that Dushane's supplier Bobby Raikes had a heart of a lose canon who used violence instead of thinking. Bobby and Lee decided to burn Chris with an iron to pressure Dushane into recovering the debt. What sociopathic maniacs. To carry on, the characterisation was deep but the show swam in a short length of time that blocked richer character developments. As a conclusion, the poverty show was packed with pure madness that had no explicit explanation. So I give the content a 6/10.
Jackson Booth-Millard I noticed this in an article and from the teaser adverts and said to myself that I would try it and hope it would be as interesting viewing as similar gripping teenage drama based films and dramas, e.g. Kidulthood, This Is England, Fish Tank, and I am glad I stuck with it. From the director of Dead Set, basically, set in Hackney, East London, on the Summerhouse housing estate, this follows a group of mostly black British people in the community who all, in some way or another, get involved with gangster style crime, gang culture and underground drug dealing and business. We follow thirteen year old Ra'Nell (introducing Malcolm Kamulete) and his friend who are pulled into helping in the illegal acts, Dushane (Bullet Boy's Ashley Walters) who runs the underground drug business with his friend Sully (Kane Robinson), along with their top don partner Bobby Raikes (Green Street's Geoff Bell), until he is killed, and originally pregnant Heather (Fish Tank's Kierston Wareing) who is growing a load of marijuana in a secret hideout to sell off. The events in the story are all dramatic, such as the occasionally killing of people and even a dog that is hanged, the affect of the drugs business are seen in many cases whether it is the people who care for the young characters highly concerned or those who do it, and we see the occasional weapons and fighting used. Also starring Sharon Duncan Brewster as Lisa, Nicholas Pinnock as Leon, Giacomo Mancini as Gem, Shone Romulus as Dris, Sean Sagar as Tareek, Letitia Wright as Chantelle, George Wood as Andre, Olivia Musangi as Precious and Benedict Wong as Vincent. If you like seeing young people and teenagers emotionally and physically tortured with their appalling life decisions and delving into illegal and wrong actions, like I have seen so many times in media, then this British drama series is definitely worth catching. Good!
