Despite the pilot episode's low production values, this show has the potential to screw the whole family to the screen. It has a clever mix of fantasy, intrigues, action, love/friendship that will drive you trough the episodes you won't realize you spent 40 minutes watching when you reach the end credits. Each character is endearing. Even the bad guys. Despite the impression induced prison at the beginning of the series, the universe created within Tower Prep is as attractive as a well-known school of magic. And every kid would like to discover more about how to improve his skills, his special power. It is very sad there won't be a second season. And it is unfair this show was canceled because of lower audience due to the bad schedule.

The first few episodes moved far too slow. But the latter opens, when they were focused on escaping, were great. The acting is OK - I didn't find the characters themselves too interesting or relatable. The real redeeming element was the mysterious story line. I kept wondering how it would all get explained at the end because it was so far fetched and strange. The twists were indeed interesting. Each episode peeled back a layer, often only leaving more questions. Also, it reminds me a bit of Harry Potter. If you are OK with not understanding anything by the last released episode, go for it.

Just finished watching the first season of Tower Prep with my kids. It was incredibly entertaining. It was action packed, adventure oriented, with mysterious suspense. It was a fantasy and a sci-fi. It incorporated a love triangle, school rivalries, hazing, bullies, and fraternity initiations. It even brought forth some interesting bits of history and wove itself around tales such as Homer's Odyssey, the Red Baron, 50's Dances, the first series of computers, etc. The acting was superb. It was so fun to watch that we all couldn't wait for the next episode. Luckily I DVRed the series so we could watch 3 to 4 episodes back to back. We would have gone crazy trying to wait a whole week between shows. It is a great family friendly show that appeals to all ages. My children 6 and 8 couldn't get enough, my nephew in college loves it, my niece in high school enjoys it. My wife and I are in our 40s and thought it was great. I would recommend this show to anyone. Whether you like a bit of romance, drama, action, martial arts, mystery, suspense, cutting edge science, fantasy, history, etc. this show will have something for you.
