Matt Livingstone What Berkshire County offers is a film which goes against the tropes of the genre while also embracing them. Sure it obviously borrows from seminal slasher flicks (as most do), but it gives us a fresh go at it. The film's central theme is about standing up for oneself. Kylie is essentially a victim of sexual assault who cannot find support at home and she's become the joke of the week at school. When she babysits on Halloween night and masked killers invade the house, we see Kylie undergo significant changes as she learns many life lessons through the experience, such as discovering the will to live, not merely survive, and the will to stand up for herself against those who threaten her. Berkshire County is one of the only slasher films I've seen where the deaths are perfunctory. While I won't say who dies, it doesn't really matter who dies, because the only purpose several characters have in the movie is to die because people need to die in a slasher flick, right?Instead of running around scared, Kylie does things most characters in these roles don't do; when two killers have her pinned upstairs, she distracts them and quietly climbs down a balcony, instead of hiding in a closet. That fact that Kylie rarely is physically involved with the killers is a testament to the unique approach this film took by making it a cat and mouse game that is tense and well made, and this film, from the sets, to the costumes and masks, to the camera-work and lighting, is a very well-made movie by director Aubrey Cummings, something it seems people who reviewed this film can't appreciate. The ending twist or cliffhanger or whatever you wish to call it is unfortunate sequel bait, but it's so common these days you'd have to be an idiot to let a minute and a bit of film taint everything that came before it. In the end, Berkshire County is a rare slasher film that doesn't glorify brutal violence, rewards intelligence, has something to say, and features a relatable, female lead who's given the chance to grow.
kosmasp It starts off really good. There is a lot of drama, there's a lot of not being able to do anything because of a "mistake" (though nowadays, when everyone could film you at any second, who could say they never did something they'd never wanted anyone else to know about, let alone it being recorded).Having said that, after the initial "travel" to the country, the movie seems to kind of letting go of that premise, which is a shame. It doesn't work that good and the whole tape thing almost plays no role in what happens after a certain point. Not as much as it could have that is. Some twists are predictable and foreseeable, but it's still maintains a level of quality until the end. Decent acting for a horror movie too
markvdv-97049 The movie was pretty average. The story was pretty predictable there were some twists through out the movie but everyone could have guessed those. the beginning was unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story. The setting was classic but was pretty well done and scary , a big mansion with lots of rooms and hiding places inside of the woods isolated from the city. The bad guys looked scary but there is no info given about who they really are and what their motives are to kill. In a movie like the Wrong turn you know the bad guys are inbred, live in a small house in the woods and kill people to eat them because they are cannibals. in this movie you just have to guess all these things about the bad guys.I really enjoyed there was no over the top gore. people just got killed and that's it just some blood but no whole waves of blood coming out of someone The ending was really over the top and didn't make sense to me, it's just like they were too lazy to make a proper ending like I said the beginning was unnecessary , the story is predictable but the movie doesn't fail at being thrilling and scary and is not too bad I recommend to watch it but don't expect a masterpiece
Simon Clark The only horror and crime about this movie is that it was ever made. This movie is just plain awful. This movie borrows so many story lines from other good movies, such as Halloween, the strangers, the purge and when a stranger calls mixes it up and vomits it up into this poor showing. The acting is average and the dialogue is even worse. This is only trumped by plot holes and characters making highly unlikely decisions even (even for a horror movie).Thirty minutes in and I watched the remainder of the movie on double speed only occasionally returning to normal speed at what I thought might be crucial moments only to speed up again. The ending of the movie tries to shock but fails miserably even in that. This movie is constantly horrible and I would recommend not wasting your time on it.
