padawanmovies This flick blows! I've just watched 2 crappy "thrillers" back to back; this and A cure for Wellness... Even if u take it with a grain of salt and try to justify some of the over the top stuff, it just doesn't work DO NOT WATCH (Regardless of how much u enjoy horror/suspense films)
jesseengland-13425 Christmas horror movies are a very niche genre, with the original "Black Christmas" and "Silent Night, Deadly Night" being the most well known. While Black Christmas (2006) shares its name with the 1974 original, it bares little resemblance to its predecessor. One might remember the 00s as being an abysmal era for horror, with a slew of Saw rip-offs and torture porn gradually replacing the horror elements that made the genre scary. Black Christmas (2006) is the epitome of this, favoring cheap gross out tactics over plot, cohesion, and terror.Similar to Rob Zombie's Halloween, Black Christmas spends a great deal of its time adding an overblown and absurd backstory to its killer. Just like Zombie's Halloween: this actually makes our boogeyman LESS scary. The rest of the film chronicles our unlikable victims in their sorority on Christmas Eve, as they deal with a snow storm and some obscene phone calls. This set-up is about the only thing retained from original. Except, unlike the original, there is virtually no character development and everyone is basically just there to be killed. There are some attempts to pepper the dialogue with bits of girl power jargon, which is confusing since our characters spent all the time prior hating each other. Of course, we also have an expositional character who happens to know the entire history of the house and its killer, etc. One might think their sole focus on humorously desperate shock and gore would at least generate some cool death scenes, but that's not really the case. Most kills in this movie are fairly basic and unremarkable, unlike the original (who can forget the unicorn statue and the children's choir caroling in the background?). So, with all the original elements and storyline gone, what do we get? The killer's sister was added into the mix, looking like White Chicks on meth. There's also a second ending (or something) so ludicrous and pointless, that I felt a strong sense of cringe having to watch it with my significant other in the room. This, like the addition of the killer's sister, added nothing to the story. Seeing Andrea Martin return was the only decent thing about this movie. It takes a special film to garner a 1-star from me, but this movie embodies everything bad about 00s horror movies. If you want better gore, horror, or anything: look elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and watch the original instead.
Christmas-Reviewer I just finished watching the original I liked that one. So I decided to try the remake and that was mistake. The 1974 film was directed with style by the late Bob Clark. The original left many thing to the viewers imagination. This remake is nothing but gore with no original plot ideas and most of all many stolen ideas from other horror films. In this film we see the killers front and center. We also get a house full of sorority girls that we do not care about. They are trashy and disgusting. There is nobody you care for . AS for plot we get on incest story line about the killer and we see many violent deaths that are not very inventive. As for the story itself is just OKAY. The original has a weird mystery to it that kept you in suspense. If you don't know the story:Billy, a young boy, was abused by his mother as a child. His mother cheated on Billy's father, and eventually killed the man, while keeping Billy in the attic--for good, while she was with her lover and starting a "new" family. As Billy's mother fell pregnant with a daughter and treated her with the love he had never experienced, Billy came out of the attic after years and brutally murdered his mother and her lover. Cut to present day, a group of six sorority sisters consisting of Kelli, Dana, Lauren, Megan, Heather, Melissa and their house mother, who now live in Billy's childhood home, find themselves being harassed by threatening and intimidating mystery phone calls during Christmas Break. As one of the girls goes missing, they begin being murdered one by one by no other than Billy. Now this films budget was 12x times that of the original but it is 12x less inventive and 12x less scary. Do yourself a favor skip this and watch the original. Pass on this mess!
buckikris First let me say I never heard of the original until this movie came out. When one of my friends told me to see the original, and pass this trash up. Well I took a chance and bought the original, it was money well spent. This re-make however is more comedy than horror. I did like how they had more of a back story of who Billy and Agnes are. They are related, but they are not brother and sister. The movie takes place in different stages in Billy's life, abused as a child and locked in the attic. The re-make of Black Christmas is not what I thought it would be. It is a let down to horror fans who love old-school horror. It is one of today's typical horror movies, gore, dumb chicks, and a weak plot. If you want to see a great Christmas scary movie rent the 1974 DVD of Black Christmas. It is a great movie and it will keep U guessing til the end on who might me the killer.
