matthewchippin As a fan of the show I was expecting more of the same -- low brow humour. With relatively low expectations going in, I have to say the movie exceeded my expectations in how bad it was. The story was over the top. I mean the whole party over football thing is great but I would've liked more football in the movie instead of a ridiculous story-line. Was actually expecting the movie to be about Alex Moran's final season at BMS and not about how the goat house had basically turned into a distopia. The only reason I gave this movie a 2 instead of a 1 is because I was a fan of the show and it was nice to see the characters again. But yeah, this movie just stretched everything too far. That's all I have to say, don't waste your time with it, it may actually ruin the show for you.
Zjprohouse To say this movie wasn't entertaining would be a lie. It stays true to the show by having a boatload of ridiculous, over the top party scenes. If you were a fan of the show, like myself, you obviously liked that. However, the show had a stronger sense of plot, the fact that they were football players in college. The show made the atmosphere, while ridiculous, feel like a college campus. The movie was less focused on the whole scenario, and spent 95% of the time on the party, but it was implausible (not that anyone watched the show for plausibility). It felt slightly rushed, and while I enjoyed some of the shock value scenes, some were just put in with no regards to the plot, which was weak in the first place (to save the Goat House). There was very little explanation of what happened after the finale of the show, it just kind of jumped in. I liked the show, and if you did, I'd recommend this movie, but keep in mind that it's more of a party movie than a college movie.
alexknappenberger Listen, I haven't reviewed a movie on here before but I personally loved the humor in this movie so much that I don't feel its fair a few stuck up people are giving this bad reviews. It's obviously a movie (or TV series) that doesn't take itself seriously and with that in mind I found it to be the funniest comedy I've seen that I can remember. I'm also not generally a football fan, not really my thing but when you watch this movie it doesn't seem like a football movie, its packed with silliness, foul language, nudity, brashness and some very straightforward but well placed and unexpected humor. I can see some people thinking the style of humor in this movie is tasteless or immature but to me personally it was speaking to me. It also has an underlying parody aspect of generally overpaid athletes where the main character Thad is bigger than life which I found to be a nicely written character. Overall 10/10 I'm glad I discovered this I'm watching the TV series now.
Julian Tomescu If you're a fan of the BMS series, then you will without a doubt have a blast watching Rise to Thadland. I felt a bit skeptical at first that the film will fall short from it's original feel, but boy was I wrong! I felt ecstatic to see the producers still keeping the original uncensored comedic feel that we all know and love from the series! In addition I was glad to see most of the side characters (Donny, Harmon, Larry, etc) getting a respectable amount of well deserved screen time. We were also introduced to several new characters which made for a refreshing experience. I am truly grateful that the cast came back to create this film. This movie is perfect to watch if you're in college! Overall, Rise to Thadland far exceeded my expectations for a comedy, and as much as I would love for them to continue the series...there is no better ending to the BMS franchise than this film. Thank you.
