duru-dadlani I liked this movie. I didn't quite live like these lads, but I had a few friends who were like them. It is such a realistic recreation of those times. Well done for this wonderful piece of nostalgia.Come to think of it, there are characters like those Snakes running the insurance industry who operate in other industries as well, today.Ricky Gervais plays the hard-working good Dad.I wonder why it didn't do well at the box office.Maybe people don't like to spend £10 on nostalgia.I watched it on TV few days ago. Just seeing the leisurely opening shots of hillside with music and the credits GERVAIS-MERCHANT PRODUCTION told me it would be worth watching. And it was
JohnLeeT This film falls flat and only receives a 10 because Emily Watson gives another stunning performance in it as Mrs. Kendrick. She is delightful and mesmerizing as usual and completely dominates every scene in which she appears. While her part is small, her talent is not and that is what makes her presence so essential to what little success this movie achieves. It is always more than worthwhile to see this magnificent actress on screen, in however small the role, and watch what miraculous gifts she brings to any piece. Over and over again she manages to amaze and confound audiences with a magnetism and presence far beyond any other living actress working in any medium. In this film, she sparkles in spite of the lackluster writing and direction that is the fatal flaw which sinks the rest of the cast. It is only her magic that makes her standout in this film failure and her unequalled power that illuminates her participation in spite of the overall cloud of disappointment this movie generates. Do not miss her performance!!!
villow-woods the film some hows borrows the same characters that we have witnessed since a long time in films like lemon Popsicle or American pie etc except that this is no sex comedy as a matter of fact i was pleasantly surprised with the maturity the film was handled. all the three guys were beautifully chosen for the part. they look the part. i quite enjoyed the film it was beautifully shot with some good performances but what i really loved was the writing, the humor was kick ass in the film ... the dialogues were really funny .. the writing team please take a bow my only problem was the story it was kinda same that we have heard or seen earlier but the treatment was different.... but had fun watching the film ...
symonm I'm always surprised when a film I'd heard had mixed reviews at best, turns out to be so much better than I was expecting and Cemetery Junction is a great example of this. It's an old fashioned feel good movie. Sure it's maybe a little twee in places and ties things up nicely at the end but what's wrong with that sometimes? Great casting with superb performances from the central few characters and again a stunning turn from Ralph Fiennes. How good an actor is that guy? Poignant, touching, both gently and laugh out loud funny in places, a great character driven plot and just very very good film making IMO. Great use of music too, which like Tarantino movies always adds massively to the overall appeal. Can't recommend it enough. Gervais and Merchant should be very proud of themselves and I hope they're aware that this is a much better film than the box office takings would suggest.Similar film styles would be East is East, Sideways and maybe, Letter to Brezhnev. If you liked those, watch this. You'll love it.
