superindrajit Akshay Kumar who has given his best performance after craps from 1997 till 1999 Jaanwar, started his crap session again from Chandni Chowk to China till Tees Maar Khan which was at the end of December 2010. Besides Housefull and De Dana Dan, all his movies flopped during this time. While Khatta Meetha was a bad toilet joke, Tees Maar Khan was the disaster of the year. Chandni Chowk to China is not as bad as Tees Maar Khan but it is probably the worst comedy of Akshay i've seen though it was funny at parts. But, Mithun kicking Kumar and making him fly was retarted and this proves how Bollywood comedies have tried to tickle you and make you laugh to such retarted things. There is no story itself, it's just about a village in Beijing terrorized by a Chinese warrior called Hojo, this guy was stupid and every Chinese actor in the film didn't do much except fight. Akshay is some innocent cook who goes to China after he is told he was a warrior called Liu Sheng and only he can save the village from Hojo the villain. The movie bores you and crosses the limit when all of a sudden Mithun is brought and killed in China. And, a weak and innocent Sidhu becomes a strong and innocent one after taking training from a cop who he helped recovering his memory and the man turns out to be Deepika's long lost father. How stupid can a movie get? Trying to copy the old Manmohan Desai theme of long lost families? Nkihil Advani's biggest crap was this making even Patiala House better than this. Heck, Kal Ho Na Ho was better and even that didn't flop when Patiala House did. Akshay Kumar now in 2012 after hit Desi Boys being his comeback needs good movie like Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore which look good. Hopefully, this will start his hit streak like Jaanwar and Sangharsh did in 1999. Deepika and Akshay both did average in the film, they weren't at their best, the film was a bit ruahed, could have actually been better if they took time and made it. Akshay Kumar is a good actor but films like Tees Maar Khan and this brings him down, but now he will rise. After ones bad times, good times start!
M . first, it must be stated that this film was a joint venture with Hollywood, and used many Chinese actors and kung fu story lines. the jokes, especially in the first half, are very subversive, ironic and sarcastic, which are forms of humour that are hardly ever used in Indian film. mainstream Indian film is never used to question authority, only to enforce it. many of the jokes in this film poke fun at bollywood clichés and silly Indian beliefs. this usually ends up confusing and annoying indians, who can usually understand that a joke has just occurred, but their inability to understand the joke is on them, and the fact that it wasn't someone slipping on a banana peel, totally confuses them.the story uses more hong kong kung fu clichés than bollywood clichés, which is another thing that annoys indians, who are completely against trying to understand a genre of film that is not their own. most of the reviews you read here are written by people who have never seen a kung fu film and only seen Hollywood blockbusters. their entire frame of reference is mainstream Hindi films and mainstream American films... if you ask the average Indian what their favourite American film is, they'll most likely say something like 'snakes on a plane', so keep in mind whose opinion you're listening to.... the worst thing is when an Indian tells you a film like this one is 'unrealistic', considering that bollywood films are famous for people over 40 appearing as teenagers, hundreds of dancers suddenly appearing right after a boy tells a girl he wants to marry her, singing songs during which clothes and locations are somehow changed thirty times in the span of five minutes and live music suddenly appearing in an empty room to accompany the hero as his voice changes so that he can sing for seven minutes something that he could have said in half a second and, while playing the piano, sounds of dhol, sitar and harmonium somehow come from the piano.... yes, that sounds MUCH MORE realistic than anything in this film....??the film is very successful, doing exactly what it intended to: subverting traditional bollywood clichés, adding new aspects of storytelling to mainstream Indian film and attempting to crossover the bollywood style with other styles, in this case, the kung fu film. this is a genre experiment that mainstream Indian movie fans will simply never understand.it's pretty much guaranteed that you've never seen anything like this film and if you like kung fu films, bollywood films and subversive humour that doesn't rely on slipping on banana peels or some happy-go-lucky idiot dancing around and talking too fast (which is considered top level humour in India), watch this - you'll be surprised and delighted. if you're a bollywood fan and have never seen anything else, go crawling back to watching the latest Indian version of romeo & juliet, with some young girl and boy who want to get married, but their parents won't allow it - which is a tried-and-true, guaranteed hit in India. indians NEVER get sick of seeing this formula and will happily pay money to watch the exact same movie they've already seen THOUSANDS of times. most indians can only accept ideas that have been regurgitated a million times and they refuse to accept anything other than what they've been given for the last 70 years.... if this is you, don't bother with this film, it would be like trying to teach a fish how to walk....
veggwhale Well I don't care if people bash and hate this movie....I just thought it was very good. I'm a fan of Gordon Liu and Akshay Kumar. my family enjoyed this movie and I repeat, we aren't even Hindi/Indian, white, or Chinese. So boo ya if ya didn't like this movie. I know that Akshay has a background in martial arts and to see him in action and comedy was all that matters. I thought Deepika was very pretty as Suzy That roger guy who plays the dad was awesome too! Gawd I hate people who are always so negative about a movie. even if some scenes were kind of dumb, I didn't mind. The critics and the haters just nag and nag about the film and the director. so what? there are some bad directors out there, we get it now. But there were some good scenes about believing in yourself or sumthing like that. and i absolutely laughed at the potato worship. I'm not even Hindi or Chinese and I understood this film more than the losers who degraded it. Yeah there were some cheesy scenes, bad choice of music, and stuff but overall I looked beyond that and had enjoyed the movie.
Jag85 This is probably the first attempt at combining a kung-fu movie with a musical. Although it's a bizarre combination, it could actually work if done right, but this movie however fails in many ways. The plot was silly and incoherent, the melodrama and comedy was over-the-top, and the movie was too long to top it off. However, I did find some of the comedy scenes quite hilarious and the action scenes were also quite good in an over-the-top kind of way (like "Kung-Fu Hustle"). I would have given this movie a lower score, but it does at least have a few saving graces in its action and comedy, and it can be quite enjoyable if one is willing to suspend all disbelief. However, I would only recommend this movie if you are a fan of both Bollywood musicals and Kung-Fu movies.5/10
