Reviews

Tony Leave the B&W films for the art house mob, it's not clever or artistic it's just trying to be. Nosferatu, The Birds, Psycho, yes it worked because that was all they had to work with. Might be good story, but I'm not wasting my time, or the money spent on HD colour TV to watch anything less than classic if B&W.
Smoreni Zmaj Kevin Smith's firstborn, low-budget black and white movie that launched him as one of the most witty screen-writers/directors of today. And first appearance of Jay and Silent Bob, duo that became a legend. Required reading for all lovers of independent film. <3 9/10 <3
SimplisticOne -----SPOILERS AHEAD-----I love this film, some people might hate it, but I think it's the true definition of Black Comedy. I liked this movie better than Clerks II, even though, because I don't really plan reviewing Clerks II, I thought it was a 7/10. But this one is better in any way, shape or form. Dante is a shop clerk who normally gets in trouble thanks to his friend Randal, a troublesome boy who also works in the shop, for example, Randal showed a picture of a gaping vagina to a customer, he often annoys other customers, and gave cigarettes to a 4 year old, which caused Dante to lose 2 of his friends (I believe). Later on in the film, we discover that Dante's girlfriend "Veronica" had sex with a dead body, which became a major impact to me. Dante and Randal are seen wrestling in one scene, seriously injured, but then they make up for all the trouble that happened. There WAS an original ending to the film, which was Dante getting gunned down by a robber, which at first I didn't know it was there, but I was happy that wasn't the original ending, because it didn't have any context to the film, it happened randomly, and it wasn't essential for the film. Overall, this film is definitely a nice example of black comedy, I really liked it.
John Brooks I would say "love it or hate it", but really it's not about that. I don't "hate" this. I'm biased that 90's movies are the best, so if anything I tried harder than necessary to get into it. The random conversations, the intentionally stupid-witty dialog, the black n white angle, 90's youth culture with crossover alt metal in the background with the VHS rental and everything...But if this is basically a collection of short comedy sketches sown together to make something of a movie, and it can be mostly judged for its smaller parts, then it really isn't top notch stuff, and overall isn't anything more than a self-indulgent ultra-subjective account of impressions. It's fine that a film can be super subjective, but it does need to deliver in the quality of whatever craft it handles. Here, the humor is clear. It's obvious the edge the film is operating to reach.I'm not now deciding for everyone and saying it's horrible and no one should watch, but yes indeed I am. Just kidding. But it's pretty ordinary stuff. If it's your thing, you dig it, it means something in your personal life's development, it's nostalgic...perfect. But if you're an eager comedy fan and don't necessarily want to hear about hockey and edgy Star Wars opinions with 'cocks and dicks' every five minutes, and are looking for top notch, well constructed 90's "standup" more universal material, go straight for Seinfeld, it's outright superior stuff, or in a similar standup-style flick from 3 years earlier, check out Steve Oedekerk's "High Strung", absolutely hilarious.4/10.
