In my early childhood, I would watch nothing other than "Volcano;" now that I'm a little older, I realize that "Volcano" is too unrealistic and predictable. That's why I moved on to "Dante's Peak.""Dante's Peak" is a mind-blowing state-of-the-art disaster film from Universal Studios, Digital Domain, and CIS Hollywood. In my point of view, this film is much more realistic and slightly more scientifically accurate (composite volcanoes do not eject fast-moving, low-viscosity lava) Although a lot of perspectives have their ups and downs, "Dante's Peak" is a good film, and it somewhat keeps the audience in suspense of what would happen next.

bslindsey-44662 When I was a child my mother had this movie on DVD and my siblings and I watched it till it wouldn't load anymore. Now that I'm grown up and have rewatched it I can honestly say that while it isn't bad, it isn't as good as my 10 year old self thought it was. Definitely worth the watch though, and showing it to your children a few times when they're old enough to appreciate the story line. Also, some of the reviews have mentioned Harry and Rachel's relationship and how it was built/forced. It said at the beginning that it was 4 years after Harry's fiance was killed plus they had a weak to get to know each other. And that doesn't take into account the fact that they were in a near death situation together. Another comment I found is how it's far fetched that Graham was able to drive Rachel's truck when he's about ten years old. Not that far fetched since in real life there was a six year old who stole his parent's car and drove it home because he didn't want to attend church. And, aside from that, yes some of the things in the movie are far fetched, I won't deny that, but they also have more scientific facts in it than some of the other natural disaster movies that are from recent years.

egg_egan First watched Dante's Peak when it was released in 1997 and as a kid thought it was brilliant. Just watched it again and I have to say, wow. It is a great film, full of entertainment and action. Yes it is cheesy at times and bits are a bit far fetched e.g. driving over lava, but putting that a side it is a fantastic film.

It was written by Leslie Boham and directed by Roger Donaldson. Dante's Peak is a gripping human drama starring Pierce Brosnan as Harry Dalton a volcanologist who arrives at a countryside town which was named Dante's Peak after a long dormant volcano. Dalton befriends the town's mayor Rachel Wando played by Linda Hamilton and ends up having a love affair with her. There is mounting alarm as the scientist discovers dead trees,dead squirrels, brown drinking water and other early warnings of volcanic doom, indicating that Dante's Peak may wake up at any moment. The movie has elaborate special effects with citizens fleeing the town while the mountain roars, ash falls from the sky, melting snow causes rivers to rage out of control, a dam bursts, bridges collapse and shock waves flatten forests etc. As a year ten student I really enjoyed the movie. As we are covering volcanoes as a topic in school I felt the movie was a good source of information showing the impact of a volcanic eruption. I thought it was realistic and accurate but I would have enjoyed it more if there had of been even more gore in it! I thought the plot was good with a few twists and turns. All in all – a great watch!!
