nwilkie-34702 I was so pleased to see this laugh-a-minute romp, fun for the whole family! The Olsen twins are as charming as ever, the characters have depth, and the plot was beautifully complex and unpredictable. I was miffed to see a flagrantly inaccuate portrayal of the therapeutic administration of fluoxetine (Prozac). As you well know, dear reader, fluoxetine is a long-acting first generation selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is still used today, it's efficacy being as timeless as the plot to "It Takes Two". The mechanism is still poorly understood, however what we do know is it usually takes 4-8 weeks to reach therapeutic efficacy. Why, then, did Ms. Kensington take one of the wedding-goers' Prozac as an anxiolytic prior to her wedding? "That would be entirely ineffective!" you might say. You'd be right. I hope in future Olsen twins movies we will see more appropriate medical humor. Thank you for your time.
Python Hyena It Takes Two (1995): Dir: Andy Tennant / Cast: Ashley Olsen, Mary- Kate Olsen, Steve Guttenberg, Kirstie Alley, Jane Sibbett: Shameless remake of The Parent Trap about teamwork and collaboration between two scheming girls who happen to be twins. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will obviously play opposite. One belongs to a wealthy household who arrives home to the news that her father is engaged to a snob. The other is an orphan sent to summer camp with her caseworker. The camp is located across the lake and both girls switch places to match her father up with the case worker. Directed by Andy Tennant with beautiful photography. Story is predictable and corny with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen rehearsing The Parent Trap. Is it any surprise that they accomplish their mission? Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg have done better and will hopefully get over this pothole of a film. Jane Sibbett plays the snotty new woman whom Guttenberg feels the need to profess marriage to. These films are a dime a dozen and are aimed at young girls who will hopefully grow up to understand what a crock of sh*t this xerox charade really is. The film's purpose is to cash in the popularity of the Olsen twins who gained major popularity in the sitcom Full House. On the big screen they seem very small outside their sitcom universe. After about fifteen minutes of this then nausea should kick in. Score: 3 / 10
harry91923 This film is by far the best work of the Olsen Twins. If you think that all Mary-Kate and Ashley movies are girly and lack substance, this movie defies that stereotype. IF YOU ONLY WATCH ONE MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY MOVIE, THIS IS THE ONE TO SEE! Not to mention, of course, this movie has Kirstie Alley in it. What more could you ask? Well, there's more; Do you remember the actress who played Ross Geller's ex-wife, Carol, on "Friends"? Jane Sibbett plays the despicable gold digger Clarise Kensington who's only wish is to get the wealthy Roger Callaway (Steve Guttenburg) and his immense fortune all to herself. The twins play the lovable Amanda and Alyssa - identical strangers. "It Takes Two" is the best movie about twins along with Lindsay Lohan's "The Parent Trap". Definitely the family movie (not the same as a children's movie) of the year. If anything, it won a Kid's Choice Award.
pranayet_writer I thought the movie was cute, but parts of it suck - like the parts that can't possibly be real. I mean, identical strangers? Please!!! And how are two people from completely different walks of life get into each other's parts like they'd been born to it, even if they shared the same gene pool, which Amanda and Alyssa don't seem to? However, the billionaire scenes were quite a sight for sore eyes, and the scenes between Diane and Roger were really romantic. And the twins were really good. Maybe the last part was a little too crude - ripping off the back of the evil stepmother's dress, it kind of spoilt the funny, sweet, and well-done scenes for me. Still, unreal as it is, I guess movies are SUPPOSED to be unreal, that's part of the whole package, the enjoyment of the fantasy or whatever you call it, so in that score It Takes Two was pretty relishable and enjoyable. Mary-Kate and Ashley were, as usual, awesome in the movie. They managed to pull off the whole thing...they, with Roger Calloway and Diane Barrows (I haven't looked at the cast list for the real names yet!) made the movie a fun-filled, worth-watching, sweet little fantasy that most families would miss out if they didn't see. Very cute!
