quridley NOTD2 succeeds by switching from the style and tone of the original while remixing the winning formula. The original was a great mix of Return of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead while Part 2 follows "Halloween 4" quite closely: the first film's killer hunts their childlike female relative on Halloween night (right down to her wearing a clown costume). Throw in some "Lost Boys" and its not too original or expensive, but its very sincere with its premise. Unlike the first film, 2 is slower and builds the characters more and sets a more realistic tone for all of the hijinks. The climax isn't as scary or clever but it gets fairly crazy and nasty. And the whole thing is directed and acted strongly.Bonus points as "From Dusk Til Dawn" lifted more than a couple story details and images from this movie to make millions of dollars more.
bowmanblue 'Night of the Demons 2' is the unimaginatively-titled sequel to 'Night of the Demons,' but at least when a film gives you such a big clue as to what it's going to be about, you should know what you're getting. And, unsurprisingly, here you get one night (and some demons). However, I was a little disappointed at the lack of demons. There's only really one main one and, granted she can possess people to help swell her ranks, but I was expecting hordes of the nasties. Perhaps I was thinking it would be more in line with the Italian horror classic B-movies 'Demons' and its own unimaginatively-titled sequel 'Demons 2.' Despite also having demons in it, 'Night of the Demons 2' was its own movie. You have the typical mix of obnoxious, over-s*xed teenagers, all of which attend a religious school run by nuns and priests. They hear an urban legend of a haunted house and decide to go and investigate on Halloween. Naturally, rumours are true and they end up unleashing one nasty old demon-woman among their numbers. It doesn't sound like anything too memorable, but it does have its traits which make it stand out. For a start there are a few nice touches which go against the horror genre's conventions (no spoilers here – you'll have to watch it to find out!). Plus it's surprisingly quite a slow burner. You'll either see it as a plus or a minus at how the plot progresses, but it takes quite a while before the heads (literally) start to roll. Then there's the plot itself. Normally slasher/horror films are set in one location, however this one seems to bounce its location back and forth between various sets. Again, this can be seen as a positive or a negative. Some may find it refreshing that the story defies the norm, others may find it a bit disjointed and think that it doesn't really have any direction. There's gore and bits that stand out, but what saves it from being totally forgettable amongst the infinite ranks of similar movies is one character: the nun. Far from being one of God's more passive servants, she kicks demon butt at every given opportunity and, as a result, single-handedly saves the movie from oblivion. If you like tongue-in-cheek horror with the occasional moment of story brilliance and a nun who wouldn't look out of place wielding an Uzi, then sit down and watch this. As long as you're in a forgiving mood you'll find enjoyment here.
morrison-dylan-fan Talking to a fellow IMDber about a number of Horror films starring "scream queen" Linnea Quigley that I have recently seen,I got told the non-Quigley Night of the Demons titles were actually very good. After watching the excellent New Zealand Horror Housebound on Netflix UK,I searched around for other horror films that were on the site, and I was happily surprised to discover that the second film in the Night series had recently been put on,which led to me getting ready to spend a second night with the demons. The plot:After a mass, mysterious killing took place at a disused funeral parlour 6 years ago,the event has entered local folk tales, due to the police finding all the dead bodies of the victims, apart from Angela-who most of the towns people believe got taken to hell by demons. Believing their eldest daughter to be dead,Angela's parents are horrified to get a card with her sig, which leads to them killing themselves (talk about starting the movie on a light note!)With their being no one to take care of her,Angela's young sister Melissa is sent to a boarding school that deals with troubled teens.Running the school on a strict religious rule, Father Bob & Sister Gloria decide that the upcoming Halloween party will not feature any loud music or booze.Sick of having to follow orders,a group of teen rebels decide to stage their own Halloween party,by taking Melissa to where her sister may have died, and performing some fake "sacrifices." Entering the funeral parlour, the group soon discover that Melissa (and the demons) are far from dead.View on the film:For the first half of the film, the screenplay by Joe Augustyn & James Penzi takes a refreshing teen Comedy tone, with Z-boy, Bibi, Shirley, Terri and Johnny's attempts to rebel against Father Bob and Sister Gloria offering a number of hilarious confrontations, whilst also allowing the viewer to warm to each member of the animated gang.Made 6 years after the original, the writers link the movies together in a delicate manner, with some aspects of the original being expanded upon (such as the red lipstick),but never overpowering the new horrors attacking the group and Sister Gloria.Undressing the "holy" image that Gloria & Bob are trying to give the school, director Brian Trenchard-Smith & cinematographer David Lewis dive into the raunchy sauce,as gliding whip-pans display every bit of naked flesh from the stunning girls, and the guys in their underwear! For the comedic elements, Brian Trenchard-Smith gives the title a gleefully wacky atmosphere, thanks to Trenchard-Smith slam- dunking from a basketball playing headless demon spraying blood over the screen,to a kung-fu fighting nun (played by an excellent Jennifer Rhodes.)Soaking the film in burning reds and green ooze splatter,Trenchard-Smith superbly keeps up with the delightfully animated cartoon gore effects with stylish first person tracking shots giving the funeral parlour a strikingly creepy atmosphere,as the group try to survive a second night of the demons.
Joe 2 great things about this sequel. Amelia Kinkade who plays Angela returns and I must say she looks completely different in a good way. Also, the original house returns.Unfortunately, it seems like we don't get to Hull House until half way into the movie. At least to stay for a while anyways. The actors in this one seem a little more annoying or maybe it's the fact that this movie focuses too much on the comedy part of it. I like when your able to laugh at a horror movie when it's not purposely trying to be funny which was more like the first. This movie tries to be funny and I found it a little annoying. If you're not expecting too much though and really enjoy the first film, there's no reason why you shouldn't watch this sequel. It's a worthy sequel, but just doesn't compare to the original is all.
