kevinxirau If there's one thing a movie should never do, it's make you bored. Sadly, that's how I felt watching the "Ratchet and Clank" movie. This one is an interesting case as its both a big screen adaptation and a reboot to the famed video game series. Ideally, this would be a good marketing strategy. However, while I can't speak for the game given that I've never played it or any prevous installments, the film fell flat. So there's a furry alien named Ratchet who wants to be a galactic ranger and gets his chance when he meets a defective war bot named Clank. Together, they join the rangers to stop the villainous Chairman Drek and Dr. Nefarious. While the overall aesthetic is unique, the animation doesn't "Wow" me in any way, looking pretty stale in comparison to other animated films or even modern video games and much of the camera work is bland. Same can be said for the humor as the best jokes barely got a chuckle out of me. While Clank, Grim, and Nefarious are the most engaging characters, the rest of the cast, some played by celebrities, offer nothing worth investing. The most annoying was the petty Capt. Qwark, who makes me want to punch him in the face every time he shows up (apparently, he's like that in the games too). The film also doesn't seem to take advantage of all the crazy weapons and tools, most of which were brought in to be simple gags and fan service. Most disappointing of all when you get down to it is that, despite the title, the relationship between Ratchet and Clank doesn't feel nearly as fleshed out as it could've been despite hitting all the familiar beats, probably because they spend a great amount of time apart from each other.Aside from the abundant action and the simple novelty of seeing these characters take on cinematic life, "Ratchet and Clank" is a rusty piece of entertainment, though be fair it's inoffensive and sticks close to the source material as opposed to other video game movies like "Super Mario Bros". I'm sure your kids will get a kick out of it.
TxMike My wife and I watched this at home on DVD from our public library.I gather that the characters in this movie are taken from a video game. I don't play video games, I was not familiar with them before seeing this movie. But it seemed like a good diversion. It was either this or watch the 2016 Vice Presidential debate, so this won easily. All animation, this takes place in a different galaxy where none of the life resembles humans. Ratchet is a small alien to this particular planet and he longs to become a member of the team of Galactic Rangers that protect the Solana galaxy. They are recruiting but he is rejected. Along comes a spaceship crash, Ratchet rushes to the site and finds a small robot he names Clank. They work well as a team and get accepted to the rangers. The big villain is Chairman Drek who wants to destroy every planet in the Solana Galaxy then take remnants to reassemble a planet he wants. The humor and the action are clearly aimed at the younger viewers, much of it seemed overly silly to me. Still it is a passably interesting animated movie with a very good surround sound track with deep bass at appropriate times.
Terryfan If there was ever a movie I could kick myself for going to see it would be this one, I mean what the heck was I thinking going to see this joke of a movie? And the theater I went to see it in charge nine dollars to go see it and it was without a shadow of a doubt the worst movie I ever spend on a movie ticket. If You wanted to see a movie based off a video game you be better off watching a fan made video game movie because they have done a better job than this joke of a movie. At first it started off with a good promise to have been a family movie but as the movie went on I was waiting for the movie to be over. It just got worse as the movie went on all this movie is about is a retelling on the story of Ratchet & Clank which I never play any of the games and thanks to this movie it's highly doubtful that I will ever play them. The voice acting in the game is some of the most disappointing I ever heard it's like the actors and actresses didn't even try just like they were there to pick up a paycheck which from what I learn this movie bomb so it's highly the DVD sales will make up the differenceThe Animation in the movie had is fair share of impressive work but it just feels like you're watching a video game movie nothing more nothing less.I swear I couldn't even begin to rant about how much I hated this movie if there was one movie I wish I didn't see it would be this one because it is just awful and such a waste of time do yourself a favor never watch this movie.I give Ratchet & Clank an 2 out of 10
David Nimstad Hade a good vibe in the spirit in the games! I've played most of the games and saw a good bunch of feelings from these games thou out the years.Maybe even the best Game->Movie ever!Good guns, similar animations good evil dudes. And Stallone in there as well! Are you kidding me? Whaaay ain't we fundin' thiiiis!?Good voice acting all the way! And I'm quite happy about a second movie as well =)I also think that you cant relate well of course.. But when you see the potential of even a great series! Just play ONE game a few hours and you see a series that could lure both western gamers and eastern anime and whatnot. Ciao =)
