The Movie Diorama Its predecessor made money, plenty of it. So for a sequel to be produced almost immediately after was inevitable, and the rushed duration of time spent creating this film clearly shows. Ben and James find themselves in Miami where intel of a drug ring leads them to investigate a respectable businessman, along with a homicide detective and hacker. I won't even lie to you, I had to look up the plot. Why? Because it was instantly forgettable. Scratch that, the whole film has been wiped from my memory. My C drive (that's Cranium Drive...heh heh) has been fragmented and abolished. I couldn't possibly replay, recite or reenact any scene from this film. Well, except the car chase that was stylised to look like 'Grand Theft Auto III', which makes no sense given the current generation game consoles and ruining a perfectly good car chase sequence with pixelated polygons. Hart and Cube's "comedy" has resorted to very loud shouting and screaming, where the former yet again didn't make me laugh once. Mind you, the whole film in its entirety made me feel dead inside. Munn actually did the best she could given the lacklustre material, and most certainly looked the part. The first ten minutes felt like a 'Fast & Furious' parody, given the inclusion of Gibson as well...which really left me confused. Is Ride Along 2 actually a spoof film disguised as an action comedy where it parodies all things wrong with franchise entertainment in every media industry!? No. It's just bad. The idyllic Miami environment was a welcomed change to any generic urban city, I mean there is a clubbing scene, plenty of floral attire and Hart eating hairy nachos on a picturesque beach. What more could one want! Yet, the forgettable plot and lack of humour resulted in a failed sequel. Wait...it's just dawned on me...this is very similar to '22 Jump Street' which also has Ice Cube. Coincidence? I think not! Anyway, no more please. I don't want to be watching a third one, like at all.
Wizard-8 I didn't think a great deal of the first "Ride Along" movie, though I will admit it did have a few slightly amusing gags as well as appealing performances by Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. However, what helped to make the first movie watchable is almost entirely missing in this sequel. Although Ice Cube does manage to be fairly likable once again, Kevin Hart this time around manages to be extremely annoying for the most part. In fairness to Hart, much of this blame for this falls to how director Tim Story and the screenplay force him to act rather than due to his acting skills. Speaking of the screenplay, the story once again is pretty predictable; I guessed a lot what would happen long before it actually did. That wouldn't have been a problem had the movie been funny, but it really isn't. While there are a few minor amusing moments here and there, the majority of the humor is tired and very familiar; you'll have seen much of it before in other comedies. With both the story and the humor being so predictable, this sequel offers essentially nothing new to viewers.
leonblackwood Review: I wasn't a big fan of this movie, because I didn't find it that funny and the characters hadn't progressed from the first movie. Ice Cube (James) is still trying to prove that Kevin Hart (Ben), isn't a worthy cop and Ben is still getting up to mischief whilst trying to help James crack a case. The first movie was much better, because the concept was fresh and the jokes were funny but this movie wasn't written that well and Ben became annoying after a while. There are a couple of funny moments, like when Ben hit his head on a spinning fan but apart from that, I can count the amount of funny moments on one hand. The soundtrack throughout the movie was decent and you can tell that this movie had a bigger budget than the first one but I still thing that they could have done a better job with this sequel. With All that aside, it's still a watchable film, if you don't take it seriously, and the chemistry between Ben and James is OK. Average!Round-Up: After the success of the first movie, which made over $150million at the box office, this movie was bound to make a hefty profit but it seemed to "come and go" out of people's mind, when it was released. Now that I have watched the film, I can understand why it wasn't as popular as the first one, and I personally think that the director will have to come up with something special, to make the next instalment a hit. Anyway, this movie was directed by Tim Story, 46, who brought you Barbershop, the original Fantastic Four franchise, Taxi, Hurricane Season and the Think Like A Man franchise. He also directed the first Ride Along, so I wasn't surprises that he brought out a sequel so quickly. I did have high hopes for this film, mainly because I enjoyed the first one so much, so I was pretty disappointed with the result. Benjamin Bratt was also a terrible villain and I'm getting a bit fed up of Ken Jeong, because he always plays the same roles in his movies. With all that aside, I still like the banter between Cube & Hart so I will be watching the next one.Budget: $40million Worldwide Gross: $124.2millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their action/comedies starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter, Benjamin Bratt, Ken Jeong, Bruce McGill, Michael Rose, Tyrese Gibson and Olivia Munn. 4/10
kosmasp Did you enjoy your first Ride along? As much as Kevin Hart and Ice Cube apparently did? Well than you will be delighted with this too. Olivia Munn joins the cast (another addition is just temporary) and we get a new city to play with. Well the main characters have that right reserved to them. We also get our Hangover joker/comedy talent, so nothing goes wrong here. The movie does serve its purpose as another reviewer suggested and it does a good job by doing so. You kind of wonder if the other duo/vehicle with Hart & Johnson will have the same effect (no pun intended). It still has some flaws, like the changing moods from Ice Cube character concerning that of his brother in law to be ... but you can forgive minor slip ups like this.
