Hermione Granger This is not one of Disney's best sequels. If you want a good sequel for once, try Simba's Pride. But this, on the other hand, was a flop. It was entertaining for a six-year-old, but the entire thing is The Little Mermaid all over again. Ariel and Eric are married and live on land with a great wall blocking the sea. Their daughter was born on a ship in the sea before the wall was built, and she was given a gift with her name on it, but it was lost to the sea. Now she's twelve and drawn to the sea, and one day she finds the gift with her name and questions her mother. It turns out Ursula has a sister, and, like Ursula, wants King Triton's trident. Ariel seems much more grown up and too mother-like, which I don't enjoy. It turns out the voice of Ursula is the voice of Ursula's sister. The plot is very similar to the first movie, and it has some pretty weird stuff in it. I recommend you skip it unless your daughter wants a bit more of The Little Mermaid, anything more. This is "anything." It's not worth being called "something."
jwvongoethe1800 In my marathon of Disney sequels, this movie is the second film I feared the most (the other one being Hunchback of Notre Dame 2). I have seen this movie as a kid, so I sort of knew I was expecting. But after ten years I did not remember much of this film, showing how bland and forgettable these movies are.I really enjoy the first one. It was the movie that give us the classics of the Disney Renaissance, an new kind of Disney princes in line with the second feminist wave (with Ariel) and the Broadway style that Disney still uses in their musicals. It has a great story, great songs, fantastic animation and every character is funny and memorable. This movie has none of the things that the original has. Let's start with the story. Ariel and Eric celebrate the birth of their daughter Melody, but then Morgana, the crazy sister of Ursula (yes, it happened), threatened her in order to get the trident of king Triton. To protect Melody, Ariel won't let her come close to the sea, even building a wall around the water. 12 years later and Melody is a person who likes water and simply ignore the wall. She finds out that she is part of the underwater kingdom of Triton and hates Ariel for not telling about it. She runs away and comes across Morgana and she gives her fins in exchange of the trident. As you can see, it is the same story of the first movie, but than backwards. What makes the plot predictable from beginning to end, with no originality what so ever. it makes you questioning why you watch this movie instead of the masterpiece of the original. The animation is not the worst I have ever seen (not after I watched the animated Titanic trilogy, Food Fight! and the video Biringquedo movies), but it is cheap and lazy for Disney standards. The design of the characters are sometimes creepy, with Ariel (one of the hottest female lead characters made by Disney) being the creepiest of them all. Most of the colors are too bright and don't look as natural as in the original.Speaking of characters, thy are all either bland and forgettable, or the kind that you hate because they are not like thy were in the original. Ariel somehow didn't understand the problems of Melody, even when thy are the same problems she had in the first movie. Prince Eric is just there so people don't question about why he is not in this film, he practically does nothing. Melody is annoying, bland and has no original personality. And then you have Tip and Dash, ho are rip offs of Timon and Pumba. Thy are there because Disney has an reputation of great comedic side characters (in their classic film made by people who know how to make a movie). Morgana is one of the worst villains of all time. She is basically an replacement of Ursula (and voiced by the same actress as the original) and showed us that the sister of the old villain want to have revenge plot, Does not work in the first place. There is nothing to say about the songs. Thy are just bland and uninspired (Howard Ashman is luckily unable to see what has happened to the movie that started his true fame). The first song makes me want to stop watching this film, after I was only watching it for 5 seconds!!!Just stay away from this movie. Stick to the original classics instead of the unnecessary sequels.
christylouis89 The Little Mermaid had always been my favorite movie ever since I was a kid. When I heard that there was a second one I was so excited. So, I went to watch it and I was highly disappointed. It will NEVER be anything compared to the Original. The plot had absolutely NO thought or creativity in it being made. It's basically the same plot as the original but reversed. *SPOILER* So sweet, naive, adorable, curious 16 year old Ariel gets turned into a dull, boring, no personality mother. Her child, Melody, grows up to be a little 'adventurer' and wants to explore the ocean. But, evil Morgana, Ursulas "Sister" that we never recalled her even having, tricks the her into stealing the Trident then all hell breaks loose. The Penguin and the walrus are just franchised versions of Timon and Pumba. Flounder, cute silly little flounder,is turned into some fat, nasal congested blob. Prince Eric sounds a hot mess and he is absolutely USELESS. The girl,Melody, is such a freaking nuisance. And may I advise you to wear some shades the animation is too bright, and colorful. There's just no magic in it as the first. This isn't even a sequel its the original movie is what's real. The new people in Disney are just unskilled, uncreative gold-diggers.Please don't give them the satisfaction. Don't waste your money.
silverangel1983 It wasn't good. The characters were underdeveloped and the only personality were from the memories I had of the previous movie which contrasted with the 'new' personalities (or lack thereof). I seriously thought the opening scene was a nightmare by Ariel because of how absurd it was. It was serious. It just reminded me of all the annoying characters on the Disney channel-everyone is hyperactive and the story jumps from action to embarrassing scenes without any really connection. The most disappointing part was the horrible songs-not catchy, not amazing. In the original Ariel had an amazing and powerful voice and all the song are catchy and fun. You remember them and want to sing them. But the songs in this movie weren't creative in the least; it's as if they're talking in a annoying sing-song voice-quite weakly, disappointing. I don't have that want-to-sing-them feeling you normally get from a Disney movie. It's as if not one wanted to do this movie, so they barely made an effort . . . this movie would needs a new story line, new catchy songs and more warmth and enthusiasm without the annoying "look at me! look at me! I'm so annoying!" mentality of this generation of Disney. :'(
