artpf Firstly, this is a really good film for the genre. It's hard to believe it was made in 2007 because it harks back to those cheesy over the top violent zombie/slasher films of the 80s and early 90s. Like Return of the Living Dead. It's really disgustingly violent from frame number one.And the best part is about a quarter into the film, it takes a left turn when the main monster dies and herein we have a great twist. The pace is fast and your attention will be kept. The director knows how to keep the energy tense and the action flowing. You'll be on the edge of your seat for the duration.
kosmasp I really love the first Wishmaster movie. I even think that the second one is really good too. Both are with Andrew Divoff, who I had the pleasure of meeting personally at a convention. But more about that on a forthcoming Wishmaster review. Andrew Divoff plays a Russian scientist, that's all I'm going to say (which doesn't spoil anything), but never fully develops any of his previous screen charisma (apparent especially in the Wishmaster movies, but also in smaller roles (see Brisco County Jr. and others).Robert Kurtzman, who also directed the first Wishmaster movie, and was part of the famous KNB-FX Group (K being his initial of course), alone was a guarantee that the movie would be good ... well at least that's what I thought ... boy was I wrong! Relying on CGI rather than on "hands-on" Special FX, which Kurtzman could've done himself (and pretty good) was one of the baddest decision he could make ... saying it looks fake, would be a disgrace to the word "fake".The acting? Apart from the aforementioned Divoff, there's only Reggie Bannister who could work as a saving Grace. But the Phantasm star, doesn't have a chance to do so ... But then again, it's not the most original script they're working with, so I don't know, if you really can blame any of the actors (well maybe some of them at least). Of course, a movie like this does not rely on acting and or a fancy story. But as the CGI doesn't work, but against the movie, the sparse real effects, cannot elevate this experience into any level, that makes it really feel like entertainment. It's bloody alright, but you can and should expect more than that! Not to mention that the soundtrack (sounds) can and do get pretty annoying! Problem if you watch it at a theater? You can't turn the volume down, neither fast forward! But just because you can at home, doesn't mean you should try it ... I strongly recommend against that! Of course there are movies, worse than that (quite a few actually), but this also isn't an argument and/or point that works for the movie! I really hate to say it, but stray away from this movie (I didn't even get into the video quality and other stuff)
Backlash007 ~Spoiler~Well it happened again. I was suckered in by all the rave reviews on the box art; duped into buying this garbage. I no longer trust any horror movie website. "Reminds fans everywhere why we love this genre" No. It doesn't. The Rage reminds me what is exactly WRONG with the genre. A completely ripped off plot, terrible young actors, and the worst CGI I've ever seen. I'm slightly hesitant to say Kurtzman's last directorial effort, Buried Alive, was better than this. That is really a low blow, but true. I should have been tipped off to that fact when I saw that Erin "Misty Mundae" Brown was the star of the film. The Rage plays like an awful version of Re-animator by way of 28 Days Later. Andrew Divoff plays a mad scientist who has created a rage virus that makes its victims go insane with destructive rage. Sigh. The virus escapes by way of the most reprehensible CGI turkey vultures and terrorizes a group of tweens who were attending some kind of Mushroomhead rave. Serves them right. Can I say anything good about The Rage? Divoff is fantastic. But when is he not? Nothing else is remotely entertaining in this film. Not even Reggie Bannister, a favorite of mine, comes off looking good. Why do people rally behind the likes of this and Hatchet? Where is the love for solid, well-acted, scary films like Outpost and Malevolence?
gorefan82 Wow. This movie had it all. From the first 10 minutes, you know this movie will be a blast. I did anyway. Of course you will probably have to be a hardcore horror/gore fan to enjoy this ride. You can't go in watching this expecting a high quality Emmy nominated horror flick. You have to have an open mind and should probably be in the mood to witness some nasty gruesome fun. I LOVED it. First off, Andrew Divoff has always been a good actor in my mind and in this movie, he ROCKED. The other actors and actresses, I can't say were good by any means. They were average if not below average. BUT who cares. This movie was fun regardless. I've seen much worse acting in my day. What made this movie shine was its abundant blood and gore. Yeah yeah, the CGI wasn't the greatest but I don't think it took away from the nastiness of it. Plus the makeup they used was excellent. The mutations looked gross and made my stomach queasy, and it takes a lot to effect me that way. The plot was pretty simple, nothing really new, but the action was non stop and exciting. The movie flew by quickly. Time flies when you are having fun. I also found this movie pretty funny in some parts. Maybe it wasn't intended to be, but I laughed quite a bit. If you enjoy a good classic horror film filled with non stop blood and gore, action packed fun, this movie is defiantly for you. True horror fans will appreciate this. I know I do.
