tonellinon The bad guys are incredibly stupid and terrible shots, even with machine guns. Murder by spy is usually hush-hush, but the show's writers favor explosions and machine-gun fire in open streets of Miami.Supposedly an ex-Army Ranger, the main character is incredibly undisciplined and emotionally unbalanced and very defiant of the authorities placed in charge of him by the constitution he swore to defend; doesn't feel military in the slightest. The one sympathetic character is the ex-SEAL. But why, after 7 seasons, he is not yet attending meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, is beyond me. All this middle-aged character does in his off- hours is drink like an alcoholic, with or without his billionaire girlfriend, yet he is fit to participate in field operations. It might have been more poignant if the ex-SEAL was in a permanent-care facility in the VA system with wet brain and the start of liver failure, and the protagonist is the only one who visits him for mentoring and advice...oh, well... This genre is best handled by British television.
ronniestacy Well I finally finished the series Burn Notice. I had watched the first 3 r 4 seasons then moved a couple years ago and lost track for a while.I'm not really happy about the ending, much like the series, it ended leaving a feeling of desperation yet hopeful. Brilliant writing and acting by all, fact, top shelf. I really enjoyed it. Yea it's of a 007 genre with over the top impossible odds, but with a personal familial and emotional twist that brings it home. One thing I found fascinating, was the brainwashing cult like mind set brought on in the final season. Very clever, and amazingly convincing how easy it can be done. Burn Notice ~ Highly recommended after hours.
Shopaholic35 This show is actually pretty excellent. The pilot episode didn't really draw me in but soon enough I found myself binge watching season after season. There's something special and new about this show. The whole burn notice premise is a smart angle and hasn't been done before. The characters are also a bit grittier than usual which stops it from being a goodies vs. baddies situation.Overall this show is really entertaining and keeps me coming back for more. If I had to change one thing I would make the tone a little less depressive but other than that great show. Thankfully I have a few more seasons to look forward to.
mdenvee In a nutshell, first 3 seasons were excellent, top drawer. Seasons 4-5 were touch and go.. some episodes poorly executed, others quite good. Season 6 was different, more like an action feature film, but the quality of script and directing was excellent and consistent with the earlier seasons (some eps are incredible). Season 7 keeps this review vote an 9/10 instead of 10/10. S7 was just sloppy, poorly written, very badly acted, zero chemistry between actors, generally boring, excessively dark, and just seemed like a 'bonus' series, unrelated to the original 1-6 Seasons. Just to be clear- I am a huge fan of the show, but I am not a zombie who can't admit to a very bad last season like many others fans applauding the series. The same downfall happened to Nip/Tuck in Season 6.. simply out of sync with the prior 5 seasons, but for Burn Notice it was more painful. This kind of phenomenon is also illustrated well in movie sagas like Star Wars, Superman, Godfather and Aliens. The first 2 films in those series were high quality, but the third installment was an insult, kind of like Season 7 of Burn Notice. For me, the show ended satisfactorily with Season 6... I can accept an unhappy ending that doesn't wrap things up too neatly and leaves fans to imagine how things finished. Sometimes the best conclusions to an action series drama is one that doesn't actually end!
